Please Help!

Hi,

I recently sold my Macbook Pro via eBay and received prompt payment on Paypal. I posted the item at my local Post Office and posted the item recorded delivery with insurance. A couple of days later the buyer has messaged me quite angrily saying that there was no Macbook Pro in the parcel, and that the parcel itself was empty aside from the cables. He sent me a picture of the wrapped item; this actually differs from how I sent it as I didn't use any brown tape to seal it and now it has it right across one of the ends. He has opened a dispute on Paypal to reclaim his money.

Has anyone else had anything like this happen to them before? What is the best process for me to take to have this sorted out? Cause at the moment with the way it stands it looks like I could be out either the Macbook or the best park of 2k Should my insurance cover this? How long does it normally take to process a claim and have it all sorted out? Thanks in advance.

doubtfull. you are saying to RM an item was stolen in transit
RM dont use brown tape to seal packages.they have damage bags and specific white damage tapes
I assume you mean you sent it special delivery,not recorded delivery?
what does the tracking show?

theres loads of conartists doing this on ebay its happened to my wife things like this then she has to wait six months to get the money of pay pal .This isnt royal mails fault

So when you say she had to wait for Paypal do you mean that Paypal eventually gave her the money back? Or did she have to do something else in order to get her money back in the end? Thanks

In my experience, eBay and Paypal always give the benefit of the doubt to the buyer. They will refund them and leave it up to you to try to get your money back. I've no idea what insurance you took, or if you will be covered. As for as Royal Mail is concerned, they have got a signature so they have done there bit. You'll have a job on your hands proving that the item was stolen whilst in Royal Mail care, or by the buyer.

I think the best place for advice is the eBay Discussion Forums. I used to go on quite a bit until it changed and now I find it hard to navigate. The regulars are usually very helpful and quite a few are experts. Don't however sign in with your selling ID. Get a new ID using a different email address, and just use that one for posting. Lots of people post with zero feedback rating, but don't be fooled, thats just their posting ID and most will have high feedback scores on their buying and selling ID's.

Along the top (of the eBay page) click on 'Community' then 'Discussion Boards' then 'Selling on eBay' then 'Seller Central'.

Looks like the buyer scammed you, did you get an initial good price?

A little more than you expected?

It would be highly unlikely that a royal mail worker stole it then packaged it up for you. Notify the sender you will be reporting this to the police and the Royal Mail investigation branch.

Police not interested? Ask to speak to the top cheese in the Police Station. THEFT and FRAUD are still criminal offences.
