Christmas presents stuck in warrington
I have a packet which arrived in North West Distribution Centre on the 10th December bound for Birmingham. It is still there!!!
What's all this about weather conditions causing delay? The weather has been OK for ages now and was never a problem between Warrington and Birmingham anyway.

Take heart. I received mine today 16/12/10 - 7 days late. I'd just about given up but realised there was significant delay within the system caused by the bad weather.

I live in Warrington and we had some icy conditions but nothing that should've caused any delays, although the postal staff around here are a bit of a joke (they wouldn't even get taken on by MacDonalds, lol).

Ah perhaps posting a comment slagging off posties on a posties website is not a good idea, I doubt you'll get any sympathy or assistance with that sort of approach.

It's true though, Warrington staff are pretty dreadful. Never used to be that way, it used to be excellent, but last couple of years it's gone down hill drastically. For instance, we used to have an excellent postie who never knocked, he'd just open the door and drop parcels in or if the door was locked he'd put them in the wheelie bin and leave a card telling you, which was convenient if we were out, in bed, or just didn't hear the door, now though we have various posties all of whom knock and if they get no response they just stick a card through meaning we have the hassle of going to collect the parcels. That's only the start, you get a card saying leave x number of hours before going to collect, which we do, we go along to collect it, get met with a long and slow queue, eventually get to the desk, get the inconvenience of having to show ID (I say inconvenience because I don't always have ID on me and have had occassions where I've had to argue with them over this), wait for ages while they go trying to find the parcel only for them to come back telling you they can't find it, the postie should've apparently said leave 24 hours before collecting and not 2 or 4 or whatever, have them offer redelivery which you agree to for say Thursday only for them not to deliver it on Thursday. Honestly, Warrington is a joke these days. Not saying every area is like this because I know my parents get a good service like we used to get, and the in-laws in Scotland get good service, but unfortunately Warrington doesn't.

Re: Christmas presents stuck in warrington
Again you're aiming your anger at the wrong people.
Your previous postie was doing you a favour. A favour that got at least 10 posties I know sacked for not following RM Policy.
The policy is that you should not leave items in unofficial "safe places" or you can be sacked and that's why the more recent ones are not leaving them for you, would you risk loosing a job over a parcel. I wouldn't.
The policy for rearranging of redeliveries again is not down to the staff at the callers office its down to the management twonk who thought it would be a good idea that redeliveries are not as a high priority as first time deliveries - this means that in a few cases redeliveries fail and customers are let down but the callers office who arrange the redlivery in good faith will not be aware that it has failed.
Another reason for redelivery failures is that posties in some areas, and I think your area is one of them, are instructed to pouch off undeliverable items (that means taking them to a Post Office). This means that they reenter the system but are not given any priority so the callers office have to rely on the MC to get the parcel back in time for redelivery. However a particular local problem is that in your area they have closed Mail centres meaning that the ones left are struggling to cope with the increased traffic.
BTW 24 hours before collection is pretty good in my area its 48 hours.
Also the Policy of needing to show your ID - that's not even RM policy that's come down from the Watchdog in charge of Postal Services and a little thing called the Postal Services Act 2000 and various amendments.

Re: Christmas presents stuck in warrington
Please note THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL CUSTOMER NOTICE.
With regards to the 1st bout of bad weather.
If you are having problems with a Royal Mail Tracked/Track and Trace item and it shows that is is either at a RDC(Regional Distribution Centre)or MC (Mail Centre) and it shows that it has been there for some time, then please note that the chances are it is not stuck there and that it has moved on but because of the weather previously, the current backlog and the extra xmas post it has not been updated on Royal Mail systems.
Although this is unofficial we are getting reports from front line posties that because of the huge backlog caused,a lot of the stuff has not been scanned in on parts of it's route which it should be,this is the main reason for the confusion/lack of information on Royal Mail's system.
There 'may' be occasions where the item is in the delivery office and has not been scanned yet as some offices still have a backlog.
Although not much help, most of the mail delayed due to the 1st bout of bad weather is probably ready or near ready to be delivered.
But now unfortunately we have a 2nd bout of bad weather which will slow things down again.
It is just a case of waiting.
Normal packets would be the same apart from the 'scanning' part, but weather permitting extra man hrs are being put in to clear them in some places.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Thanks for the info Postman. So, is it worth going to my local delivery office to enquire if it's there?

So, the gist of your argument is that Warrington staff are "pretty dreadful" because they do the job properly, and don't take risks leaving your parcels in unsafe places where any Romanian leaflet deliverer could steal them? From your original post I would wager that you are the type of person who would be on the phone immediately to complain if one of your parcels went missing as a result of being left in an unsafe place, which would have serious repercussions for the postman who left the parcel in your wheelie bin/porch. Do you seriously believe that he should risk losing his job by not doing it properly, just for the sake of your convenience?

Re: Christmas presents stuck in North West Distribution Cent
Can anyone say whether they have received parcels that have been stuck at the North West Distribution Centre. My parcel has been there since the 6th December. I just do not know how long to leave it before I should go out and spend more money on buying identical presents from the shops so I guarantee I put presents under the tree !!! I understand that it is the weather that is preventing these from getting to me but at this time of year money is short anyway not angry just frustrated as I thought this year i was really organised !!! LOL Oh well will try harder next year.

Re: Christmas presents stuck in warrington
I think eveything is starting to move at least from YDC - today I had double the normal packets and loads were amazon. One ebay in with them had a date stamp of 11 Dec 2010 so it looks like the log jam is moving.

Re: Christmas presents stuck in warrington
It's the way it was for years, the postie would just open our door and put the parcels inside, if the door was locked (which is rare) then he'd put it in the wheelie bin and leave a card, NEVER have we had a parcel stolen as a result. What can be safer than opening a door and putting it inside a house for heavens sake, it's a damn sight safer than taking it back to the delivery office. My parents postie still does this and has done for as long as they can remember and they have NEVER had a parcel stolen as a result. It takes no time or effort for a postie to just open a door and put a parcel inside, infact it's quicker than knocking and waiting for an answer. Posties claiming they don't want to risk their job and are just following orders are just hiding behind management, they are twisted, it gives them a buzz knowing they've caused the customer the inconvenience of having to go and collect their parcels, there is no other explanation.wiganpostie wrote: So, the gist of your argument is that Warrington staff are "pretty dreadful" because they do the job properly, and don't take risks leaving your parcels in unsafe places where any Romanian leaflet deliverer could steal them?
