Redirection within same delivery office

Post by japitts »

We're hoping to be moving home a week Friday, literally 5 minutes down the road and certainly served by the same delivery office.

We'll obviously be setting up a redirection by the end of this week - and appreciate that this treats redirected items as first class, but realistically - is this going to add a day to deliveries or, because it's within the same DO - will this not make any difference? I'm thinking christmas post here... and to be fair, the service is actually quite good in this area.

Thanks

It will depend on when the people are bundling up, if one is gone out before the other bundles up then you'll have to wait until the next day.

To be fair it's a 'local' redi so these should be pulled out 1st before anyone ties up/goes out,but like i said 'should'...

if it is only 5 mins down road then you may still have the same postman who should fiqure out redirection and just prep it to new address instead of old address

Well the redirect is working well, but I just wanted to check one small thing, which may explain a missing packet..

We moved home on Friday 17th, and the redirection started then. So Thursday 16th delivery was to the old address, there was no delivery on the 18th due to bad snow, but a great pile duly came on Monday 20th.

Am I correct in thinking, that the date on which the redirection started, is when no more deliveries to the old address happened? So a redirection from the 17th, means that days items would get redirected - or am I out by a day?

I have one packet that I know was sent by second class around the 13th - and hasn't turned up. I've spoken to the delivery office who've checked their callers office for both addresses, and the redirection "on the frames", and I'm perfectly happy they're not "at fault". It would be interesting to know if I'm out by a day and this would explain the missing parcel

Thanks

Couple of things - the redirection does indeed start from the date you put on the form ie 17th December but from experience sometimes they are a day late I think it all depends when and who prints them out for the Delivery Officer (the Postie on your delivery)

Now with the parcel - it is very very rare that parcels are redirected I think in my whole time I have redirected only 1. Its not a policy not to redirect them its just very rare that it needs to be done . So if its a big Parcel (ie too big for a walking postman to deliver it) it may have been missed and gone to the original address and hopefully they refused it and it got sent back. Or a card was left and they ignored it - might be worth having a word with the new residents.

There is also a possibility it might still be in the backlog as well and if its please accept this humble posties apologies - we do try our best but sometimes with the best will things go wrong.
