7 digit number on a post mark?

Post by andymatt »

Hi, I am trying to find out what the number 22802766 relates to on a post mark.
This number is underneath the time and 'North West Midlands' on the post mark.

Does it relate to an area where a letter is posted?

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

andymatt, that number is the franking machine die number, see the quote below from a page on the royal mail website about it (http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/cont ... 9#57000300) it's number 17 in the list of answers.
# Where do I find my franking machine Die number?

Your Die number is unique to your franking machine and is included on every franked impression you print, just below the postage amount. If you need to find out what your Die number is, set your machine to £0.00 and print off a franked impression.

Perhaps AndyMatt, being so new to this forum, should be forgiven for being none to familiar with our normal customs and practices, including the positive use of light hearted posts to keep a thread being noticed and preventing it falling dormant such that the all important informative answer is never given. A few months from now, and fully benefiting from this forum, AndyMatt will probably deeply regret calling some of us 'twats'. :Very Happy
I, of course, was disappointed that my serious question at the start of the 'Yellow Pods' thread was followed by a number of flippant comments but calling colleagues on here 'twats' was the last thing on my mind. :Very Happy
Returning to AndyMatt's original question, which referred to a (black) 'North West Midlands' POSTMARK applied at the Wolverhampton Mail Centre, this is not the same thing as a Die Number in a Franking machine ompression applied ( in red or blue ) by one of Royal Mail's a business customers, and so I believe Space Phoenix's explanation to be incorrect. DogsOfWar's comment that "I think it is a machine count" is probably nearer the truth. :Very Happy
