Hi .... I hope someone can answer this:-
I have recently sent two small packets (padded A5) envelopes to Budapest, Hungary. After a week they still have not arrived. Unfortunately I didn't weigh them. I just put 7 first class stamps on them. If this is not enough will I get these sent back to me? (I put my address on the back of them). Will Royal Mail realise there was not enough postage (if this is the case) and send them back to me or will they just send it to Hungary and let their postal service deal with it? I'm really just wondering how far they would have got.
I hope someone "in the know" can help.

I know for definite that if you did not put enough postage on them then RM would send the items back to you before they left the country,if they have realised.
I would not of thought that if they did go and there was not enough postage on them that the hungarians would realise. So the chances are they would still be delivered as normal.
Rule num 1: Weigh the bloody things.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It's correct that they wouldn't leave the country without sufficient postage. It would be returned with a sticker on it telling you to take it to a post office (which, if people used them, would help keep the post offices open
).
With them not arriving after a week, I can only think that they've gone via the slow route i.e. over land and may only be a sort of second class service. Unfortunately, I've never worked in Hungary so I'm not fully aware of their postal practises and I assume contacting their local delivery offices would be difficult?

As seven first class stamps equates to £2.52 this would cover a package up to 200g by air mail.
