Hi all
I'm getting a ton of old post from the old tenant here which i having to go to the post box for to do RTS. The other day there was a bank card sent here (been here 4 months now so why he's doing this i have no idea!) but i made sure to RTS this too. He came to my door asking after it and i told him i sent it back.
I'm just curious can i setup an automatic RTS for someones name at this address? Kinda like the redirect you can do when you move...? Something he should be doing but obviously doesn't want to and continues to tell the bank/credit card company he still lives here most likely.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Auto RTS for old tenant - possible?
You can't.
Technically we are supposed to deliver mail as addressed and it is up to you to RTS it.
Unofficially - and I would imagine a significant number of posties who have their own regular round do this - if you speak to your postie in person to say 'Can you RTS any mail addressed to John Smith/surname Smith please, they no longer live here and don't have any interest in the property', they may RTS mail in the 'Gone away' occupants in that scenario.
Don't say 'I only want mail with our names on it'. This causes problems if there are multiple surnames in the new household as it's too difficult to recall. Also it's handy to know if a scammer sets up a business or somehow gets bank accounts set up at your address.
But the postie who covers the normal posties day off or leave may not do this because they don't know as it's an informal arrangement. Some regular posties may also not do it because we're not supposed to or their rounds are too big to recall everyone who doesn't want previous occupants mail.

Yes you can. Just need to complain, and complain and complain. Manager will then fill out an orange card with the details on which 'should' be done every day.
Several orange cards on my frame.

Does it have a number like the 739's? Or is it 'official' as in recognised locally?Rve83ndxd wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025, 17:10Yesyellowbelly wrote: ↑28 Jul 2025, 17:09That's a new one on me, never seen it. Is it an 'official' form?![]()

Re: Auto RTS for old tenant - possible?
This is the official line from the RM website:
If you receive mail with your address but the wrong name, it's because we deliver to addresses, not names. You can cross out the address, write 'Not known at this address' or 'No longer lives here,' and drop it in a postbox. We'll try to return it to the sender so they can update their records.
If you’ve received a ‘Something for you’ card with the wrong name, we recommend throwing it away. After our holding period, we'll return the item to the sender.

That should happen, what if 'Mr Smith ' moves back in or another 'Smith' does?
