When I first noticed a section for Ebayer users on the RM website my initial thought was - great - the service is responding to a demand.

My wife is a keen Ebayer and post is the only service on offer that normally provides a very good service and is sensibly priced. We live in a rural area and the post office is around three miles away but generally either of us fit in the visit to the post office within the daily routine of school/work. At the same time we can carry out banking or pick up a pint of milk/bread etc. A great local service.

With pressure on post offices generally which bright spark decided that you can pay online and print your own "stamps". This just sounds like a recipie for disaster with incorrect weights/sizes etc.

We keep hearing in the media that post offices are not viable in many areas - is it any surprise if the management/government keep removing revenue raisers for the local post office?

When I first picked up on the Ebay section I thought that the RM management were looking to take advantage of their strong place in the market -wishful thinking - It appears that they are trying to drive another nail into the coffin of the local post office.

The growth of online sales provides a great opportunity for RM - there is no real competition for "joe average" to use any other service so why not use this advantage to get people into a post office rather than keep them out of out of it - other than to dump a load of parcels from which they have made no revenue. Maybe it;s just me but this stinks.

I am convinced that the RM management/government are trying to remove as many services as possible to justify the closure of post offices.

This is a tragedy - our postal service is world class - probaly the only public service we have that is!!
