So - some will already be aware of what a total & utter shambles eBay's 'Simple Delivery' is.
In relation to Royal Mail - I wondered if anyone in the know can clarify this point. When eBay decides what weight and size a parcel is (using their AI) when listing an item, eBay are stating that if you go with that, and if then the actual parcel is oversize and / or overweight for the Royal Mail label generated by eBay, that there is an agreement in place for Royal Mail to accept the parcels regardless, and their will be no extra costs incurred. I quote here direct from eBay's site:
"What if the label provided is not appropriate for my item?
If your parcel exceeds the maximum size and weight of the label, and you listed using our recommended size and weight for your item, you won't have to pay any additional costs. Just go ahead and use the Simple Delivery postage label, as we’ve made sure the carrier will accept your package for delivery.
If you provided the size and weight of the item yourself, and these happen to be inaccurate, you’ll be responsible for covering any additional costs."
There are already reports coming in that some Post Offices (separate from RM I know), are now refusing parcels with Royal Mail labels generated by eBay's Simple Delivery if they are overweight / oversized for the label. Other reports suggest some Post Offices are refusing all parcels with eBay generated Simple Delivery labels. This was brought up in the official live chat with eBay today, where an eBay seller stated a Post Office had refused a parcel because of this. This was eBay's official response, and again I quote directly:
"Once it goes live [Special Delivery], they have to accept it. If they don't accept it, let us know, we can record that and report it."
By that, it is assumed they mean they will report said Post Office and / or clerk who refused the parcel.
I currently purchase all my labels direct from Royal Mail, and request Royal Mail to collect the following day. This will change on April 15th when Simple Delivery becomes mandatory (it's currently optional). Royal Mail labels will be purchased via eBay, but collections can still be set up.
So, will Royal Mail accept an oversize / overweight parcel for the label dished out by eBay, due to an agreement that eBay are officially stating is in place?
Thanks!
