RM Return keeps going in circles?

Post by Cheddz »

Hello all

I am having an issue with a music magpie return. I posted it out on monday 24th, using the QR code provided. The lady in the post office stuck the label and gave me a receipt. Since then the item has come back to the Doncaster DO, to be rerouted and then end up back at the same DO, seemingly doing circles. I tried to go into the DO to intercept and see if anything could be done but they told me today its already gone back out to the MC. I called the phone line to be told the postcode they have for the destination is a DN2 one, which is mine. The receipt i have shows its destination postcode is XX101FF, which is the music magpie address. What can I do, if anything, to help it get to where it needs to go and stop being sent back to the Doncaster DO indefinately? I understand the timeframe for a lost claim hasnt been and gone yet so I may be worrying too soon, but is there any way someone at RM can fix the address issue? Tracking is editted if anyone wants to have a look at whats happened so far. I can only imagine the new label didnt fully cover my address and that is maybe causing the issue? Otherwise not sure whats happened.

Thank you

If the address encoded in the 2D barcode on the item (the square shaped barcode) has the post code starting DN2, that'll be what the packet sorting machines will be reading. Doncaster DO need to cross out the 2D barcode so that when it next goes back to a MC it has to be manually sorted.

Thank you. I cant understand why the 2D code would have a DN2 postcode. Would they be able to manually sort it to the correct address? If this barcode has the DN2 postcode on it does that mean the address I want it to go to is nowhere on the packet?

Sorry for all the questions, I havent ever had this issue before. Thank you for the help. How do I go about getting the staff at DO to cross out the code? I tried calling customer service and they just said wait until April 3rd. Is it possible its been done already when it was sent back out the second time?

If Music Magpie paid for the service then it is their problem, not yours.

I feel that, but from what i understand and have read about similar cases, they'll just state the 48 tracked only covers up £150 if lost and so I lose out on the rest of the value of a £670 phone. Not keen on that idea, also not sure if they can refuse to refund if it is lost or if i have a case as it was prepaid and i simply followed their instruction? Id rather it just get there and avoid all this! Thanks again, very friendly and helpful people here.

It might be a mix-up with the address, so it’s a good idea to reach out to RM customer service directly with your tracking details. They might be able to fix the error on their end and get your package moving in the right direction.

I did call them only to be told what the tracking says, though they did tell me the destination is my postcode and not the one i have on the reciept/the correct one and said to wait until 3rd april and then submit a lost claim. Made no real effort to see if it can be fixed. I will defo try call again Mon if it doesnt self sort. Thanks!

Dis you remove any other stickers from the packaging. Usually, reason for items being in loop like this, is two labels on the parcel.

No I didnt, and I think that is the issue, new label stuck over the top of the old one. And its scanning the old label to try come back to me. Can it be manually sorted? Twice its been spotted at the DO but then just put back into the system, I think it needs the old barcode crossing out as a previous reply stated.

Hopefully, someone will make an effort and will send it where it needs to go.

It needs Doncaster DO to cross out the 2D barcode. At Sheffield MC the packet sleeve with the item in, will go to the packet sorting machine first. If Doncaster DO haven’t crossed the 2D barcode out, the packet sorting machine at Sheffield will read the wrong postcode from the 2D barcode again and sort it to Doncaster DO.

DYK if there's is a 'counter' on these parcel sorting machines that will reject a parcel after a certain number of transits through a MC for this very situation?

No counters on them. There was a thread a few months back now where an item was bouncing between the DO and MC for weeks

Its been at Sheffield MC since sunday night with no movement now. Before it was bouncing every day. The lady in the PO did stick the new label with a 2D barcdode over the top of the old 2D barcode, so i thought nothing of it. The old label does have a "photo only" 2d barcode at the bottom and also a 1D barcode, cant recall if these was covered up with the new one. I guess ill have to contact MM tomorrow and raise it as lost as that was the date they gave me to do so. Assuming it doesnt turn up. Cheers again!

Remember next time to remove any old labels. It's shocking, how many parcels have one label on top of old one or two adjacent to each other and you have to check tracking, to see which one is the latest one.
