Parcel going to USA via France, is this normal?

Post by Froggie73 »

Hi!

I have sent an item to Alabama in the US and I was just having a look to see where it is, and the tracking says France Roissy (as shown on screenshot attached) Really? This is the very first time it's ever happened and I send stuff to the US regularly.
Is this actually normal? I have a feeling not, but trying not to panic just yet...

Thanks

Common up to a point. In my experience about 1 in 20 customers arriving at the Post Office counter fail to write “USA” at the end of the address when sending to that country.* After that, it is up to RM to guess the destination. Both France and the US have have 5 digit postcodes and Alabama has lots of places with French names.

Alternatively, someone just put it in the wrong sack, that happens too.

*Those figures are for the USA and the Republic of Ireland, where people seem to have particular problems. Never anywhere near as bad for other destinations.

Hi @snaggletooth,

Thanks for your insight. I asked Google initially, and Gemini did not seem to think it was abnormal...

I ordered my postage online, so no problem with the address or at least the destination country, as per (heavily redacted) screenshot of my label. As for the postcode, this one was the full postcode (2letters 5digits-4digits), nothing like the French one - though I have the advantage to be French originally (well, I'm not sure it's an advantage necessarily  ) so I am familiar with them and therefore would recognise them - I understand that it might not be the case for everyone)

This one is actually going to Birmingham in Alabama, so if anything I would have expected it to go to Birmingham in the UK.

I'll opt for the wrong sack then. Hopefully, someone will realise soon that it's in the wrong place

Thanks

Now I am starting to get a little worried. My package still hasn't moved from ROISSY since the 25th it would seem. The tracking details are still exactly the same as what they were in my first post. Is there anything that can be done about it or is it just lost now?

thanks

sometimes when parcels are misrouted the tracking stops, I don't know why, so its possible that everything is okay, just that you won't see its progress.

Thank you and I hope you are right. It's just annoying because Etsy won't see it that way. If it can't be tracked and shown as delivered, it might be flagged up and Etsy might refund the customer without me or the customer doing a thing - even if the customer receives it... The joys of AI powered systems...
