Hoping someone can advise me on possible outcomes to my issue.
I sent a parcel containing a digital camera, a lens, a battery charger and three camera batteries by Special Delivery Guaranteed 1pm (paid for online and dropped off at my local PO). I know, I made a serious mistake in including the batteries, or perhaps, not putting some kind of "Battery" sticker on the parcel.
The parcel was scanned at Edinburgh airport and was refused. According to the tracking page it made its way back to Edinburgh MC and left there again at 00:09 last Friday. There is a message - "We were unable to fly your item to its destination so are sending it by road, which may take a little longer." There have been no updates since.
I called 03457 740 740 a couple of times. The first call on Sunday I discovered my mistake with the batteries and was informed it might be sent to Belfast and checked there. I was told to call back after 1PM today if tracking did not update
So I called again today. No one seems to know where the parcel is but I was given some possible outcomes.
1. It would be sent back to me with or without the batteries
or 2. it would be delivered to the guy who bought the camera kit.
I was told that tracking would update today.
Tonight, Googling around, I discover that parcels with batteries can be destroyed. I know I've lost my entitlement to any form of compensation, I accept my wrong doing, no argument there from me, lesson learn and all that, but can anyone give an opinion on a likely outcome?
If it helps, the parcel was in a sturdy cardboard box, well sealed and the camera kit inside was in its original packing. There is also a invoice/packing slip enclosed. The batteries were individually wrapped in bubble wrap and there was no danger of short circuits.
Many thanks
Dave

Re: Me the customer is at fault - Edinburgh MC
Hey Dave.
I would imagine that the parcel would still be delivered to the recipient, but it will take its journey through the network by road, thus taking slightly longer.
A SP delivery reference number would be awfully helpful and an indication of the sender location and recipient location as well.
