What decides a towns Postcode?
I’ve wondered recently, what factors into deciding a towns postcode, for example, Im from Worcester, why do Worcestershire towns such as Bromsgrove, Stourport, Bewdley etc. fall under the B and DY postcodes when they are closer to Worcester than they are to B’ham and Dudley, and all are within Worcestershire. Stourport&Bewdley are 20/25 min to Worcs but 50 mins to Dudley for example.
Would it make more sense for these towns to be within the WR postcode areas. If not, Why wouldn’t it?

I think it all relates to the way RM organised itself at the time that the postcode system was created, with each one or two letter area code corresponding to a postal district. Subesequent reorganisations mean that they no longer match up like that.
