Missing SD 1pm parcel- Birmingham MC

Hi, another new guy here, would like some advice on my missing parcel. It’s a mobile phone sent by SD 1pm service on Nov 21st. It reached Birmingham MC that evening and tracking says it was dispatched to Sheffield MC, and that’s as far as it goes. The package was collected by RM from the sender’s home so I assumed maybe it had a plain label on it and got mixed up with the standard mail somehow. Anyway it’s been almost 2 weeks now and I’m wondering if there is any hope of it turning up or if I should just give up! I’m thinking possibly delays due to Xmas post etc but it’s looking less and less likely every passing day, and more like it’s maybe been stolen. Is that likely? I assume the mail centres have security measures to prevent that from happening? Tracking number is SE142547722GB. Thanks in advance for any insight.

I think the sender needs to contact Royal Mail and make a claim. Even Xmas delays on ordinary mail would not explain why it was sent on to Sheffield MC but not received there.

Cheers, the sender has already started a claim but not heard anything back yet. I’m just hoping it turns up.

Sorry for bumping this thread but I’m just hoping someone can shed some light on how this package could have got lost between two Mail Centres. Having read a few of the older posts it seems (if I’m understanding it correctly) that SD 1pm parcels are pretty carefully logged every step of the way, so I’m wondering what the reaction would be when one of them is scanned onto a lorry and then isn’t there at the other end? I mean, wouldn’t that at least result in an update on the tracking to say it’s missing? I’ve been refunded now but I’d still like to find out what happened, or at least what RM actually do to investigate it. Cheers

Working at the delivery office end of things if we had a SD go missing the local manager should have a trail of evidence (signatures on paper of the postie taking it out on delivery, electronic scans at the delivery point) to locate a SD.

However, between mail centres with the volume of items (even SD items) transiting through I'm not sure how an investigation for a single item could even start. Unless a whole bag of SD's went missing or there's a regular pattern of particular SD items going missing at a particular MC or between MC's to indicate something is amiss it's going to be difficult to ascertain what happened. Sometimes we find SD's in our normal packet containers which is a no no but it happens. It literally could have fallen down a gap somewhere! I found a packet behind a sorting frame that was dated as posted two years previously, it had lain there under some old boxes and bags.

Also as regards the investigation, if a worker (it would probably be a manager) was to attempt to investigate it
RM would look at the hourly cost and probably consider it's cheaper to pay the compensation rather than have a manager or managers across several points in the network system spend many hours investigating it (and have someone covering those managers 'normal' jobs too).

We put special returns back in the locker for delivery next day but the door is left open ,anyone could go in there and nick something even all the temporary staff on nights.

Surely the camera's would pick up everyone entering an leaving.also cannot enter our locker room without id pass that is only turned on by security.

camera's hahaha the only camera's are outside the locker,with hundreds of people going in and out i doubt you'd ever know who a thief was, as for camera's outside they are so rusty i doubt they even move let alone work they have been there since the 80's,my van saturday although legal looked like it belonged in the scrapyard ,embarrassing pulling up to other couriers at the lights .Taking out all the money for shareholders while the buildings and vans fall apart is a disgrace .
