So Royal Mail have decided to increase prices from October.
Interesting they have now made it cheaper for a 2nd class letter with a stamp on it than through a business account where it will have a machine printed label and QR code as well as organised into a bag. It seems like someone either overlooked this at Royal Mail or just hoping that people wouldn’t compare Customer and Business rates.
This is on top of for some business services now having new extra charges.

Re: Price increase
Second class stamped mail is subsidised and being held artificially low to allow access to the service for the most vulnerable in society as part of the Universal Service Obligation.
It is one of the few remaining very slight nods to the public service we once were.

Re: Price increase
It is almost no longer worthwhile to have a business contract, with fuel surcharge, new 'green' surcharge of 2p per packet plus 10p per packet for 'peak periods - Nov - Jan. Yet the business discount is still minimal if you are a small business.... Driving more businesses to use other courier options...

Re: Price increase
Fuel and green surcharges are something all businesses will have to factor into their delivery pricing structure because they will eventually be universal across all couriers.
Some couriers may hide them more stealthily than Royal Mail but they will still be there especially for same or next day delivery.
