Wrong Postage by cashier

Post by Rox »

So I posted a parcel to Finland three weeks ago that hasnt arrived. I used counter service. I wasn't offered tracking or any options. Just told the price of I believe £20.45, i paid it, handed over the parcel and left.
My customs form showed over £50 worth of items inside and it weighed 2.9kg which after doing some research in the weeks since means it shouldn't have been put through on this service.
My receipt shows it was put through as international standard printed papers which i read online means it is brochures or pamphlets which it obviously isn't nor declared as such.
Where would my parcel have ended up with completely the wrong postage on it. Theres a lot of sentimental items in it and I just want it back or delivered especially as this wasnt my fault. Customer service have been useless and just keep telling me to wait another week and claim compensation, but I can only claim £20 as its the wrong service! Its causing a lot of stress at the thought of these items being lost!

I'm not convinced that you would be able to claim any compensation from Royal Mail as you used a service that was invalid. However, you may well be able to claim something from the Post Office for selling you the wrong service: you need to make a complaint via their customer services.

There is a chance of it showing up, especially if delayed in Finnish Customs as the Delivery Aim for International Economy (the slowest service that it may have gone by instead) is 15 days. https://www.royalmail.com/sending/inter ... es/finland

However, you should still claim from the Post Office as suggested above.

Ok thanks

I honestly just want the parcel back (or delivered obviously) due to the sentimental items inside.
The thought of it being lost is devastating.

Its just irritating as I deliberately used counter service and not self service so it would be put through right but looks like I can't count on that either.
