I sent £500 worth of items to a photography studio. I routinely send things here and never have any issues with delivery whatsoever. When I checked the tracking it said it had been delivered along with a photograph of what looked like a reception desk. When I checked who it was signed by it said “ reception desk” but it was just a line and not a signature at all . Knowing that the photography studio doesn’t have a reception desk I contacted them along with the link and they confirmed they had not received the parcel and that they had no idea where that confirmation of delivery photograph was taken and said it must have been sent somewhere else.
An hour later I try ringing Royal Mail and I’m on the phone for half an hour waiting in queue before the studio get in touch with me again saying a lady has just dropped it off from an office 1 mile away!
I’m a little confused as to how this could have happened, the address was correct, the recipients name was on the parcel too yet it was delivered to an address a mile away and signed for by a woman when the ordinal recipient was a man.
I have emailed them what’s happened and currently awaiting to hear back but I was talking to a postie who said I’ll not get any joy from it as it says “delivered” and that it’s arrived somewhere. basically insinuating that even if it’s at completely the wrong location and person, if it says delivered then its “delivered”and there is no way Royal Mail would know if it’s in the right location or not.

With tracked items you can (if the system is working) go onto the RM website https://www.royalmail.com/track-your-itemC2019 wrote: ↑09 Mar 2023, 19:09How would I go about getting the gps details ? :)BenacreNick wrote: ↑09 Mar 2023, 18:20Does the Special Delivery tracking reference offer a GPS location I wonder ?

put in the tracking number and as I said if the system is working it can show a little map giving a fairly accurate pinpoint
and GPS co-ord's of where the item was scanned out on delivery. Not sure if it works with Special Delivery tracking references though.
Would you be willing to put the tracking reference up on here to check? Or you could try yourself...

Oh yes I see this now , I need to have a closer look but it’s saying the co-ordinates given are 3.5 miles away from the location it should have been sent to

Re: Special delivery by 1 sent to wrong building
Sounds like your Special got mixed into another business locations mail and the reception at the
incorrect address signed for everything (as they normally would) without checking each item and
assumed everything was for them. Fortunately they sound like a decent lot and got it to the correct
place. Doesn't excuse the mistake in the first place though, especially with a Special Delivery.
Also, this below is not correct:

It would take a bit of investigation by a manager with access to the data but they would be able to find out!basically insinuating that even if it’s at completely the wrong location and person, if it says delivered then its “delivered”and there is no way Royal Mail would know if it’s in the right location or not.

While not the issue here, note that RM deliver to an address and not to a person. And no proof of ID is required when delivery is made.

I was told the opposite of this , or if the recipient isn’t available they take your name and say it was signed for by that person. Even so, the address was for number 18 and it was delivered to number 2…..so I’m not even sure how that’s possible to deliver it to the wrong address

Re: Special delivery by 1 sent to wrong building
Correct, the name of the person signing for the item is taken but no ID is requested. But a Special Delivery item should never be delivered to a neighbour.
My point was that you said the recipient was a different gender to the one you had sent it to. That wouldn't have been an issue for RM if it was delivered to the correct address. But the problem with this item appears to be that it was delivered to a totally incorrect address by mistake.
