Royal Mail sent my International Tracked and Signed parcel to Hong Kong instead of USA?

Post by gw1991 »

Apparently a parcel I was sending to the USA has instead been sent to Hong Kong and they've attempted to deliver it to an address there and got no answer. I would assume because the USA address doesn't actually exist in Hong Kong. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do at this point? It seems incredibly strange it would be sent in the complete opposite direction to an entirely different continent when I made sure to both write UNITED STATES in bold lettering and put my own address as the sender.

Here is my tracking info:

There is more information on the Hong Kong tracking website https://webapp.hongkongpost.hk/en/mail_ ... index.html

According to them, it's waiting for collection at Ap Lei Chau Post Office.

From here there isn't much you can do but report the error through an official Royal Mail channel (we aren't one). If the address is wrong then eventually it will be returned to the sender and at that point sent to the proper address in the USA.

However, it would really unusual for a parcel bound for the USA would have a similar address in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, they don't have postcodes and the address format is different, and it would have a district address like Tsuen Wan, Kowloon, Western District.

The post office mentioned is actually on Hong Kong Island, and from memory, I can't remember a distinct called Wexford (I lived there for 3 years) it looks like to me it's in Wan Chai.

I wonder if labels have been transferred from a parcel bound for Hong Kong and it got stuck to your parcel, it's the only thing that makes sense. This can happen when senders don't ensure the label is fully secure.

Thank you for your help. Do you know where I would report it officially?

You could report it via Twitter @royalmailhelp.

Or by calling the customer care number 0345 774 0740 But queues on there can be horrendous, and the call routing system is quite archaic.

You may be able to put an online complaint/claim in via this website https://personal.help.royalmail.com/app ... ims-centre
