Royal Mail tracking seems to be completely broken

Post by C2019 »

I am mainly talking for international deliveries here as I have had no issues with any parcels in England which have all been tracked perfectly. I’m interested to hear your experiences.
I am assuming this is because of the cyber attack and I remember reading something about tracking not being accurate however there seems to be no communication from Royal Mail as to why tracking is fluctuating randomly between random locations.
So I posted numerous items on the 5th of December ( all international) , all of which changed to “PSC Milton Keynes - Arrived” mid January , now those parcels have updated to “ Northampton Peak Parcel Hub- Arrived” mid February ( but the tracking only let me know this 2 days ago for some reason. Since then, every few hours or so I get an update it’s back to its previous location, then it’s back at Northampton, repeat process.
I recently posted an international tracked parcel to the US in February which arrived at Sheffield and then I got notification it was going to HWDC, then it randomly teleported to Northampton Peak Parcel Hub before once again updating to “Sheffield ” and it’s once again sy uk in a loop between these 2 locations
So either my parcel is on a continuous loop between Sheffield and Northampton and some evil postage machine is scanning things over and over again or the tracking is just not fit for purpose, I’m going with the latter.
I’ve also noticed since the hack that if a parcel lands in the US it usually automatically directs you to the usps site directly from the Royal Mail site, now it’s exclusively the Royal Mail site and I’d have to type it in on the USPS site. It’s no bother but unsure as to why Royal Mail would intentionally try to make things more complicated.
Anyone else having tracking issues ?

I think the tracking is correct- what has changed is the way items are being handled in the light of the cyber attack.

It appears that Int Tracked and Signed items were shunted to Milton Keynes PSC for initial storage and then some have been processed (which seems to be dependent on things like destination and Size/Format) for onward transmission.

Over the last couple of days, many of the items 'stored' in MK PSC have been sent to various Mail Centres - e.g. Manchester, Jubilee, South Mids and Northampton PPH, then a few days later appearing in the destination country system.

Much of this activity can be seen on ship24.com which indicates to a certain extent the level of processing of an item at a lower level than RMs systems.

The above is based on observation rather than knowledge so if anyone knows any different..

I have also noticed that tracked 24 no longer seems to have the full information, it all appears to be in a constant state of flux which is very confusing and alarming 😳

I sent one on Monday and one on Wednesday to USA. I'm pretty sure Royal Mail was showing Northampton this morning for both, but now the second shows only Sender Preparing Item on Royal Mail.
17Track was (and is) showing Sender Preparing Item for the first and no trace for the second.
Ship24 shows Sender Preparing Item for both
ParcelsApp shows Sender preparing item for the first and Northampton for the second.
