Mis delivered parcel

Post by goldy »

Can you take a misdelivered parcel to any post office and return to sender, obviously can't put it back in postbox ,it's for a previous occupant and don't know where they live, would you have to pay?

You don’t have to pay, as long as the parcel arrived at your address via Royal Mail or Parcelforce. Cross out the existing name and address, write “return to sender - moved away” on the front, and hand it over at the Post Office. Don’t expect to be able to jump the queue or to receive a proof of posting.

About the title of this thread: if the parcel was delivered to the address on the front of the parcel, and there is no redirection in place, then the parcel was correctly delivered from the point of view of Royal Mail and the law.

If the parcel fits through the slot, then there is no need to take it to the post office. Just make sure the address has been over-scribbled (but still readable) and the reason why.

Putting RTS or Return to sender will also help.

If its too large to go into a letters Post Box, you may have a Parcel Box somewhere locally.

They look like this:
