Royal Mail Aerogrammes - still valid?

Post by simmo11 »

I have obtained 3 Royal Mail Aerogrammes such as the one attached.

I have been told they are still valid as postage paid worldwide. Is this correct? I gather the sale of Aerogrammes was withdrawn in the early 2010s?

Apparently discontinued in 2012.

However people have still used the odd one or two and have not reported any problems.

It's sort of pot luck really.

Thanks.

Think I'll risk it for a biscuit and send the one I have written to my friend in the US.

If it gets flagged by revenue protection will it be sent back to me? My address is in the appropriate place on the reverse.

If it gets sent to revenue protection and it has a senders return address on then it will be returned to you with a £2:50 surcharge applied

But that doesn't answer the question of whether they're still postally valid.
There's no mention of them in the 'Swap Out' scheme so, though they bear the impression of a "regular stamp" and weren't barcoded, I would assume they still are valid.

Most staff both in MCs and DOs will have never heard of Aerogrammes.

They are still valid for Worldwide postage, as long as there are no enclosures.
