Identify service used from VE tracking number?

Post by Chazzza »

Hi all,

I just bought a phone from an online store, and was given a tracking number that starts with VE, it didn't say what service they sent it with and am curious as to how long I might expect to wait to receive it. The item was supposedly shipped yesterday at 3pm, but the RM tracking says:" Sorry, we're currently unable to confirm the status of your item... Please try again tomorrow" and "A mail item with that barcode cannot be located", so I can't even tell which service was used and I haven't had a response directly from the seller.

Does anyone know what service would have been used for a tracking number starting with VE? I know SE is Special Delivery, MZ Tracked 24, KB First-Class Signed For, but never sent or received one with VE before.

Cheers!

I think VE is special delivery as it should follow the S10 standard (UPU) which is for insured items. https://www.upu.int/UPU/media/upu/files ... S10-12.pdf

Just to add Royal Mail have had a few problems with their tracking system over Christmas so it may be progressing okay but just not showing that it is.

You might find https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/S10_(UPU_standard) interesting
Thanks, didn't realise that what I thought was a Royal Mail specific tracking number was actually an international standard item ID.

Indeed you are correct, Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed 1pm! The tracking just came online today, stating it was accepted at the post office at 10:47 today (so they didn't post it on 28th like they said they did!).

Hopefully it gets to me sometime this weekend, although I think there are some delays at my local Swindon mail centre from one of the service updates that may slow it down a bit.

Thanks all for your help!
