Reusing Tracking Codes

Post by GaryE2000 »

I ordered an Item from Ebay in November for Christmas, which was dispatched on the 25th November with Tracking reference: DF659540293GB

After 2 weeks, I requested the Tracking code from the seller & discovered the Tracking information listed below. It appears that a Parcel with the same Tracking details was posted on the 16th Nov & was signed for on the 19th Nov; but then my Parcel was sent on the 25th Nov with a duplicate Tracking Reference.

Is it common to reuse Tracking References & given the current Royal Mail issues; how long should I allow for delivery?

it’s not uncommon for 2 tracked items, (two individually packed items) to display the same Track & Trace Tracking ID code, usually I think where either the buyer has ordered a repeat duplicate order or the seller has shipped out a duplicate in error,

or part of the label has come away from from item in processing &/or sorting & managed to find its way on to another item, so two individual, not related items go to one end of the country to another, which does happen due to poorly affixed labelling,

or (and this for me is rare), two identical Track & Trace numbered labels due to a printing error, I stand to be corrected on any of the above.

Check when the seller said it would be delivered by and, if they have exceeded that time, you should open a claim with eBay. I’m sure it wasn’t 4 weeks…

It just seemed strange that 2 Tracked items, posted 9 days apart at the same Post Office; going to different destinations, would have the same Tracking number.

I understand that I can lodge a claim with Ebay, but as I've seen a copy of the Tracking slip; I'm willing to give it a few more weeks.

Hi GaryE2000, did this ever get resolved ? I posted something to music magpie yesterday (28th March) using the QR code generated by them at the post office and upon tracking it shows all previous information of an item being delivered back on 8th March ZF768074059GB.

A little worried as it was worth £95 and not 100% sure if it will now go to the right destination or arrived there and my details won't be linked to the tracking ID as the return address?

I get Royal Mail have to re-use tracking codes but 20 days apart seems a bit odd.
