welfare checks on customers during delivery rounds

Post by terry1974 »

Earlier this week my elderly father who has terminal leukaemia and is rarely out of bed happened to be up in the hallway as I had popped out for a prescription and he answered the door to take in a parcel from the RM employee who he had not personally seen for many weeks- clearly in decline he looked a shadow of himself and probably in a more frail state surprised if not shocked the post lady he knew in better days. subsequently I arrive home to start his lunch when there is a hell of a bang and hammering on our outer door- i actually thought my god someones either been attacked or maybe a fire and needs a phone such was the noise- i opened the door to find a policewoman on the steps i said whatevers wrong? I need entry to find neglect .. neglect of what -i exclaim your father, i said i doubt that he is fed, bathed, watered etc, in a state of shock its been reported to us (the wpc would not say who by) but as they had already rung an ambulance the ambulancewoman said "why did the postwoman get involved in this"- there was no neglect and simply and sadly a man dying of a terminal illness who looked shockingly thin through that illness not starvation or neglect. another royal mail employee told us oh what she has done is as part of this royal mail "eyes and ears of the community scheme" at welfare checking seen an opportunity of some old chap looking terrible to bag herself a £500 bonus for supposed but misplaced community spiritedness and rung it in as she obviously thinks its anonymous (but the ambulance woman let the cat out the bag who rung in). however my greater concern is that as a family we have done all we can as a family for a dying and loved relative and this rampage through our house (not just by one but several coppers that landed) almost an act of gross invasion of privacy. i get the "oh but some really abused people or elderly folks are left neglected " could be overlooked . but despite everything been gauged in the clear , what rights of complaint or compensation do we have here. one family member who was raped in their younger days said they felt this strong-arming by coppers going through the house and looking through cupboards was like been raped all over again, especially when at the end of all it didnt add up to a row of beans and was all down to an over the top actions of a supposedly concerned postal worker- as one person put it after her 30 pieces of silver and exploited a situation for exactly that under the guise of real concern. any views please?
