Never again ???

Post by jrcKNOBBY »

Hello to one and all. I must admit that been a British citizen, I have grown up with Royal Mail. So when for the VERY FIRST TIME in my life, I had come to send a parcel to Lagos Nigeria, I did NOT get that much help or advice from the counter staff in England. As it happens, it was cheaper to split the package into 2 parcels. But as I say, I had NEVER sent a parcel international before. So I would have thought that the lady could or would have helped me out a bit. I had put the FULL name and home address in Lagos. I then asked her on how long it would take to arrive. But all I got told was a “MINIMUM OF 6 DAYS” but NO average normal time, just kept getting told “MINIMUM OF 6 DAYS”. So I sent off BOTH of the parcels. That was well over 2 weeks ago. I was NOT advised to use tracking or asked to put the persons phone number. As I had just STUPIDLY thought that it would be just the SAME as it is in England, parcel right to your door, and if no one at home, a card in the letter box saying the location to pick it up from. But it was ONLY after I had paid for everything, and it had been taken off the counter and processed, that I had sent a photo of the 2 parcels to my friend in Lagos. As I was asked WHY I had NOT put on a contact phone number. So I told them that I was NOT asked to, and it did NOT say on the W H SMITH parcel box to put a phone number, and anyway it had been sent off by that time. But the very next week, I still had a few things that I had wanted to send. So I went to the SAME W H SMITH shop to send a third parcel. But NOW knowing to add the Lagos contact phone number. I also paid EXTRA to have the parcel TRACKED. But what a SHOCK I got when I kept looking to see the progress of the new TRACKED parcel. It was dealt with and processed around 11:30am on the 19/07/2022. It then went NORTH from the northeast??? But did NOT arrive to the Tyneside Mail Center. I would have thought that it would have been sent SOUTH to
Middlesbrough. So from BEFORE 12 NOON from the town of H/Pool to arrive at Tyneside, it took just under 30 hours??? As it arrived at 5:52pm (17:52) and then it says “ITEM DESPATCHED to HEATHROW WORLDWIDE DC AT 6:52pm (18:52) on the 20/07/2022.
But from it saying that it had been SENT to HEATHROW WORLDWIDE DC from Tyneside at 6:52pm (18:52) on the 20/07/2022, it did NOT get to Heathrow worldwide DC until 1:14am (01:14) on the 23/07/2022. So let’s just say it was sent at 19:00 on the WEDNESDAY 20/07/2022. It took approximately 78 hours (OVER 3 DAYS) as it got to Heathrow worldwide DC on the 23/07/2022 SUNDAY at 01:14am. Now you would think that it would be on its way, WRONG. As it did NOT leave the Heathrow worldwide DC until the 26/07/2022 at 12:24 am on the TUESDAY morning. So you are thinking it is WELL ON IT’S WAY to LAGOS. But WRONG. as of the 27/07/2022 at the time of 05:30am it shows on the TRACKING information that it SAYS “Item Leaving the UK LONDON AMU”. The time I am composing this message is at 22:40 on WEDNESDAY NIGHT the 27/07/2022. So it has taken to get from the northeast of England to Heathrow DC and saying more or less, it is on it’s way from TUESDAY 19/07/2022 at around 12 noon to 22:40 on rhe 27/07/2022. So GOD only knows when this tracked parcel will arrive at it address, but the 2 parcels that I did NOT track, at what location may they be at ??? So much for that MINIMUM of just 6 days.
But what I would LOVE to know, is the ADDRESS of the office in LAGOS, just incase the first 2 parcels have gotten that far as yet, as they had been sent a full week BEFORE the 1 TRACKED parcel that had STARTED its journey at around NOON on the 19/07/2022.

That was quite difficult to read but two points jump out.

There is no average time for items to be delivered to Nigeria that's why they wouldn't tell you. It all depends on various things and they are directed by Post Office HQ and Royal Mail to give out only a "delivery aim" timeline for a particular service. For International standard that 6 to 8 days https://www.royalmail.com/nigeria

As to the Post Office not knowing the details needed for Items going to Nigeria, there are 195 different countries that you can send items to - It's impossible for a counter clerk to know the details for every single country. In fact, Royal Mail puts the onus on the sender to make sure they comply with the country's requirements and whether the contents are on the banned or Restricted list. https://www.royalmail.com/nigeria
