Hi all, I'm in a bit of a pickle and would appreciate any advice or at the least something to calm my nerves!
I sent an item on Thursday via first class signed for, and I noticed this morning on the receipt that the house number is incorrect. The street and postcode are correct.
The intended house number is 35, the street only goes up to 37, and the receipt says 75.
Now I have never gotten this address wrong in my life, but I'm starting to doubt myself, I can't say for sure if I definitely wrote 35 and not 75.
The item hasn't been delivered yet. I rang RM and they told me that the parcel would just be returned to myself.
It's so important this item is received before Wednesday this week - they are orders of service for a funeral. So if the item is returned to me it would be too late to resend.
If I have happened to stupidy put the wrong house number on the parcel, but correct street and postcode, and the street only goes up to no. 37, what are the chances of the parcel being delivered to someone else on that street? Will the postie go to the street before realising there is no 75 or will it get sent back as soon as it gets to the delivery office?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Please help! Incorrect house number
It would depend on whether the street has a regular postman.
Is there a name on the letter?
If so a regular postman might realise the simple mistake and delivery won't be delayed.
If it isn't a regular postman they might return the item to sender as no such address.
If you can find a number for the relevant delivery office and you actually get someone to answer the phone they could pass a message on to the relevant postperson.
If the recipient knows their postperson they could just mention it to them that if anything comes addressed to 75 it is for them. (though it may be a bit late for that)

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Could it just be that the PO have typed the wrong number into their system which then printed out the receipt also showing the wrong number?

Can't be used with normal 'Signed For' which the tracking number indicates what it is.2yearpostie wrote: ↑21 Mar 2022, 17:06https://www.royalmail.com/receiving/cha ... ry-options

Re: Please help! Incorrect house number
They regularly make these mistakes.
However, a 1st class item posted on a Thursday should be delivered on the Friday.
Even accounting for the shitty service Royal Mail are providing at the moment the fact that it has not been delivered yet means it really is pot luck as to whether it will be delivered by Wednesday.
A possible option is to resend the item using the special delivery service on Tuesday which guarantees the item is received by the recipient before 9am or 1pm on Wednesday depending on the service purchased?
