Without any context its difficult to give any advice

Was it meant to go to Northern Ireland, if not then there may be an issue with the contents or the parcel itself. Lithium batteries are the biggest cause of issues at the moment.

If you could give us the tracking number we can use our insider knowledge to advise you, and it might help if you can give us a general idea what was inside, nothing specific of course.

Thanks for replying.

The contents were - my expired passport, original change of name deed and a letter from HMRC to show I am using my new name.

Yes, it was meant to go there, it was going to the passport office in Belfast.

Just worried that if it’s lost, it’s going to be an issue because original documents would be lost.

Ahh now it becomes clearer.

The various passport offices round the country get literally thousands of Special Deliveries, tracked and signed for items daily. So what usually happens is that they are delivered bulk by the local mail centre.

But with the amount of being scanned there is usually a delay from when the passport offices receives it to it updating on Royal Mails public tracking system.

So whilst we can't say with absolute certainty that's its been delivered safe and sound 99.99% of the time, in these situations it usually is.

So it could have been delivered but may take longer for the tracking to update?

Thanks, I’ll keep an eye on it and also the passport office tracking too.

If in the extreme likelihood that it did go missing and becomes lost, is it easy to claim?

Claiming your postage cost back is reasonably easy.

Claiming for the cost of replacement documents is more complicated, and depends on you having purchased the additional Consequential Loss insurance at the time of posting.

You need your proof of posting either way.

Oh, I was under the impression standard SD covered me for £500?

I have the POP.

The standard cover is for cash, vouchers or just about anything you can buy in a shop, including jewellery.

Consequential loss is required for most other things, but generally a claim would involve paying something to create or re-create something. This includes documents. It also covers the consequences of lateness or loss, e.g. if you missed a holiday because RM lost your passport.

In all cases you need to prove the value you claim for.

Great, I wasn’t aware, I didn’t get consequential cover.

I have an invoice though from my solicitor that executed, prepared and witnessed my change of name deed.

So I won’t be covered?
