Outbound delays at Langley? US bound parcel stuck

I posted a parcel bound for New York City on Saturday, and on Sunday morning is was tracked to Langley HWDC. At 3.32 Sunday morning it was marked as "Item leaving the UK", and that was the last update. The USPS site says "Origin post is preparing shipment", which I understand to mean that it hasn't arrived in the US yet, and I'm wondering what might have happened. I know that on the grand scheme of things this isn't a big delay, but previously when I've posted to the US parcels have cleared through Langley within a day or two, hence I'm worried that one has fallen off a conveyor or somehow got missed. Is it normal for outbound post to get stuck for days? Does anyone know whether there are delays with post to the US at the moment? It's a book and a DVD, so I can't imagine there would be a customs problem. Any advice would be much appreciated!

USPS is still reporting delays across the country, some of it caused by the uptick in COVID, some of it due to natural disasters etc, so it probably has cleared Royal Mail and is either waiting in customs in the UK or US, or has arrived at a USPS facility but is caught in a backlog.

If you check out the other threads in Customers, specifically US ones, they have been suffering delays and backlogs for a while now. (although that's unofficial).

I’m having a similar problem! My parcel was posted out last Tuesday and arrived at Heathrow early AM of Wednesday but it hasn’t even left yet Heathrow yet. Everything else has left within a couple of hours

I'm sorry you're in a similar situation - it's hard not to worry/think the worst when there are no updates. My parcel has now been stuck somewhere between Langley and the US with no updates for nine days. Previously when I've posted to the US, it's made it out the other side of US customs within two days, so this delay is frustrating....

Update: My parcel bound for NYC has made it through US customs and been tracked to USPS in NYC after a nine day stuck period with no updates. So for anyone else in this position - don't lose hope! It looks like there are severe delays, but that things are working their way through eventually!
