[My Dad unfortunately passed away 4wks ago, leaving me incharge of his property. I noticed the Royal Mail service seemed to have 'stopped' as I am at his property every other day, and in the last 3wks, not 1 item had been posted. I saw the local Postman who informed me 'A neighbour had mentioned my Dad had died, so he hadnt been delivering'
I told him, theres important mail I am expecting, and he said he would re-deliver all the outstanding mail.
I need to know, what authority the Postman has to decide to stop delivering on hearsay, and where the past 3wks mail is?

Re: Postman Has Made Decision Not To Deliver
It's RM's job to deliver as addressed unless we're officially told not to. So there's no reason why he shouldn't have delivered any post.
I can't comment on what he's done with any mail, but it sounds to me as if he's been returning it to sender, which he shouldn't have been doing. Neither should he be storing it anywhere, unless there's a Keepsafe in place.

Thanks for your reply. Complaining about dodgy service in a shop is one thing, and I wouldnt even bother, but this matter is entirely different. Having thought about it, I delcided against going to the Padge Road sorting office, and made a formal complaint to Royal Mail. Witholding mail is illegal, and this guy is seriously taking the p!$$. Especially telling me face to face he was goinv to return the outstanding mail

Re: Postman Has Made Decision Not To Deliver
He shouldn't have returned the mail, definitely, and I think a complaint is warranted, but I don't think it was done with any malice, he probably thought he was helping out.
There are more than a few posties at my place that have been caught out like this, despite them being told to deliver it all.
