Delivery and collection services will take place across the UK today.

Movement of mail through our network
Royal Mail operates an air, rail and road network to move letters and parcels between our distribution hubs, mail processing centres and delivery offices around the UK. Here we let you know about any significant issues in our logistics operation.

Air
Following a technical issue with the aircraft due to fly from Aberdeen to Sumburgh (Shetland) yesterday morning, the flight was cancelled. All mail was sent on via the road/ferry network. However, as a result, some mail due for delivery yesterday may arrive later than planned.

Rail
Our rail network services operated to schedule over the last 24-hours.

Road
Our road network services operated to schedule over the last 24-hours.

Mail Centres
The mail centre below reported not all mail was processed and despatched to schedule over the last 24-hours.

Nottingham Mail Centre: Some mail posted in the DE and NG postcode areas yesterday for delivery today in other parts of the UK.

Deliveries Today
Deliveries are operating as normal across the UK today. We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.

We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. We will regularly update customers on the offices most impacted here:

Bristol South DO (BS3, BS13 and BS41)
Clevedon DO (BS21)
East Dulwich DO (SE22)
Kidlington DO (OX5 and OX20)
Patchway DO (BS32, BS34 and BS35)
Weston Super Mare DO (BS22, BS23 and BS24)

Red and Amber weather warnings - Storm Babet
The Met Office has issued a red weather warning for parts of the east of Scotland, including Brechin, Forfar and Kirriemuir, between 6 pm on Thursday, 19 October, and Midday on Friday, 20 October 2023. A red weather warning indicates a risk of danger to life.

Due to the impact of Storm Babet, we anticipate that mail delivery, collection, and distribution across the country will be disrupted. To ensure our people's and customers' safety, we will temporarily suspend outdoor activities for the duration the red weather warning is in place. For amber warning areas, severe weather risk assessments will be conducted based on local knowledge.

Although we will strive to maintain our services in areas where it is safe to do so, the safety of our people is our top priority.

Severe weather

Following the Met Office red weather warning for parts of Scotland between 19 and 21 October and the impact of storm Babet there may be some disruption to mail delivery, collection, and distribution across parts of the UK. We’re working hard to maintain our usual services where it is safe to do so. We’re sorry for any disruption and thank you for your understanding.

Movement of mail through our network
Royal Mail operates an air, rail and road network to move letters and parcels between our distribution hubs, mail processing centres and delivery offices around the UK. Here we let you know about any significant issues in our logistics operation.

Air
The red weather warning at the weekend affected our ability to transport mail into or out of the following airports: Aberdeen, Benbecula (Hebrides), Inverness, Kirkwall (Orkney), Stornoway and Sumburgh (Shetland). As a result, mail posted in other parts of the UK, due for delivery in parts of Scotland, may arrive later than expected and items travelling in the opposite direction may also be affected.

Rail
Disruptions to the rail network during the red weather warning at the weekend affected our ability to transport mail into or out of our Scottish Distribution Centre (Motherwell). As a result, mail posted in other parts of the UK, due for delivery in parts of Scotland, may arrive later than expected. Items travelling in the opposite direction may also be affected.

Road
Road closures during the red weather warning at the weekend affected our ability to transport mail into or out of Aberdeen or Inverness. As a result, mail posted in other parts of the UK, due for delivery in parts of Scotland, may arrive later than expected.

Mail Centres

Delivery and collection services will take place across the UK today.

Movement of mail through our network
Royal Mail operates an air, rail and road network to move letters and parcels between our distribution hubs, mail processing centres and delivery offices around the UK. Here we let you know about any significant issues in our logistics operation.

Air
On Friday, the flight from Exeter to East Midlands experienced technical issues with the fuel pump, the mail was therefore transferred to road. As a result, some mail posted on Friday in parts of the far South West of England, due for delivery in parts of the Midlands, South West, North of England and Northern Ireland may arrive later than planned.

Due to the technical issue with the Exeter aircraft, the return flight from East Midlands to Exeter also had to be sent via road contingency. As a result, some mail posted on Friday in parts of parts of the Midlands, South West, North of England and Northern Ireland, due for delivery in parts of the far South West of England may arrive later than planned.

Rail
Our rail network services operated to schedule over the weekend.

Road
Our road network services operated to schedule over the weekend.

Mail Centres
Our mail centres reported all mail was processed or despatched to schedule over the weekend.

Deliveries Today
We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.

We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. We will regularly update customers on the offices most impacted here:

Aboyne SPDO (AB34)
Bristol South DO (BS3, BS13 and BS41)
Bristol South East DO (BS4 and BS14)
Herne Hill DO (SE24)
Paulton SUDO (BS39)
Thetford DO (IP24, IP25, IP26 and IP27)

Collections from business customers are temporarily suspended. Where possible we’ll notify customers in advance if collections are not taking place.

Our Customer Service Point is open, however usual access is restricted due to flooding.
