Posties work ethics

Post by Calmlikeaduck »

Hello, I’m wondering if I could get some advice please rather than my phoning and making a formal complaint and possibly costing someone their job. I’m not a nasty person and don’t want that but I am getting rather concerned with my postperson. For months now since my neighbour has been back home after spending a couple of years at her majesty’s pleasure the postperson in question has been going into their house regularly whilst carrying everyone’s mail. I’ve had to contact RM due to important mail going missing and it has come to my attention that the posty has been visiting this person’s house whilst carrying mail, I started to take note and today I saw them enter the house and then come out with their bag over their shoulder and mail in their hand, which suggests to me that it had been sorted while inside the house. They weren’t in long, say 10 minutes but other times they will be in there for a good 30/40 minutes and my concern (due to the nature of my neighbour unfortunate as it is to judge) is that they are going through the mail. It seems far fetched I know but due to missing mail I am wondering if going into someone’s house regularly may be a thing. If it was a toilet break I could understand, but it has now become a regular thing. Does anyone have any advice regarding this please? As stated I would rather see what the common consensus is before deciding whether to have a quiet word with the posty in question, I do not speak to the neighbour in question. Thanks in advance and apologies for the wall of text, I’m using my phone to post.

While it can't be discounted it's unlikely that your regular postie would be tampering with mail on their own delivery unless..

A) They were new to the job.
B) They were extremely stupid.

Any complaints and he would be the first suspect, most mail that goes missing due to nefarious means happens earlier in the pipeline where there is less obvious accountability.

The behaviour you are describing is bizarre and really warrants further investigation.
If I saw my postman doing the things you have described I wouldn't hesitate to make my concerns known to higher authorities.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Id be going to your local enquiry office and ask to have a quiet off the record chat with the manager to get this sorted.

There's no such thing as an off the record chat if an allegation of potentially criminal behaviour is made.
It's a judgement call, is there a likely innocent explanation for this behaviour?

It's possible but the balance of probability would say no, at best it's unprofessional.

At first I thought they may just be getting together for a quickie or something, unprofessional but not something I would be concerned enough to warrant reporting them but after checking my footage today I noticed that they came out holding sorted mail in their hand which gave me cause for concern due to the fact that we have had numerous mail going missing over the past few months. She is indeed a new posty around here and has only been posting for around 6 months. I dislike being a whistleblower and they may even have innocent reasons for going inside, maybe family or such. I was hoping that I would have others that think of this as innocent I suppose. Thanks for the input and now I’ll have to mull over whether this is worth bringing up or not.
