If you want your Christmas post to arrive in plenty of time, it is never too early to prepare.
While 25 December may seem far away, the Royal Mail deadlines for international post are creeping up quickly.
These are the key dates to make sure cards and presents reach your loved ones on time.
When is the last UK posting day?
Royal Mail’s latest recommended posting dates for delivery in the UK in 2016 are:
Tuesday, December 20 for second class mail
Wednesday, December 21 for first class mail
Thursday, December 22 for special delivery
Friday, December 23 for special delivery Saturday
When will Royal Mail not deliver post?
There will be a normal delivery and collection service on Christmas Eve. Between Christmas Day and Tuesday December 27 there will be no deliveries or collections. Normal service will resume on Wednesday, December 28.
On New Year’s Day there will be no deliveries or collections. In Scotland, Tuesday, January 3 is also a bank holiday so there will be no deliveries or collections north of the border.
When are the last dates for sending post abroad?
Many of the dates for International Economy (formerly known as Surface Mail) destinations have already passed. But there's still time to send Christmas cards to these destinations.
Thursday November 3 for Cyprus, Eastern Europe, Greece, Iceland, Malta, Turkey
Thursday November 17 for Western Europe
If you want to reach the rest of the world using the International Standard (formerly known as Airmail) service these are the latest recommended posting dates for your diary:
Saturday, December 3 for Africa and the Middle East
Wednesday, December 7 for Asia, Cyprus, Far East, Japan and Eastern Europe (ex Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia)
Thursday, December 8 for the Caribbean and Central & South America
Saturday, December 10 for Greece, Australia and New Zealand
Wednesday, December 14 for the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Poland
Thursday, December 15 for Canada, Finland, Sweden and the USA
Friday, December 16 for Austria, Denmark, Iceland, Portugal, Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Switzerland and Spain
Saturday, December 17 for Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg
The last dates for International Standard HM Forces Mail for British Forces Post Offices (BFPOs) are Monday, November 28 for operational BFPOs, Monday, December 12 for static BFPOs.
When is the last day to send a letter to Father Christmas?
Royal Mail will send a letter from Santa Claus for free. If you are hoping for a reply from Father Christmas, post him a letter by Friday, December 9. This is the address you need:

Make sure you include a full name and address so Father Christmas can write back.
