Hi there. I am Spiros. I come from Greece.
I decided to register since I see that a lot of people have found useful information here and/or have expressed their thoughts and opinions about RM services.
My side of the story. A parcel containing a mobile phone was sent from UK to me on 14/10/14, using International Tracked and signed service. The sender who is my best friend paid an extra fee for a compensation up to 250 pounds if the parcel was lost. Later on (today to be specific) we found out that mobile phones are excluded from enhanced compensation. Never mind that for now. Parcel never arrived. After I contacted Royal mail through twitter giving them my tracking number, they suggested we contacted RM and filled in a claim for loss document. I will copy paste below the exact back and forth moves of my parcel (taken from the royalmail/trackdetails page) .

Re: Hallo everybody. Missing parcel.
It looks as though its being returned to sender - but for some reason is bouncing between York Delivery Office (does your friend live near York), Leeds Mail Centre and the International Mail Centre - hopefully as it was scanned out of HWDC to Leeds today it might turn up at York office tomorrow.

Re: Hallo everybody. Missing parcel.
as tbt says it looks like it is being returned to sender, the reason is more than likely due to the contents, RM use GLS in greece to deliver parcels, so item would have gone to germany to reach gls they will more than likely have rejected it and it is now trying to get back to sender
the reason why it is being rejected will be due to the battery in the mobile phone, the rules regarding what could and couldnt be sent changed about a year ago, batteries were prohibited in certain circumstances from being sent, normally with Royal mail a battery already in the mobile would have been sent without a problem, however GLS have recently changed their rules meaning that any battery is now prohibited and that is why the item will more than likely be going back to the sender

Re: Hallo everybody. Missing parcel.
The same contents are possibly causing problems with the return of the item as 1st class to Leeds might go partly by air. It might be worth your friend calling York delivery office in the morning to see if there is anything they can do.
I'm wondering if there isn't any sort of stamp or sticker on the parcel to show that it has been returned for having a "no fly" item, so it might be getting send back towards HWDC how then return it back as soon as it's xrayed by the CAA.

Re: Hallo everybody. Missing parcel.
Many thanks to all of you. As you suggested I will tell my friend to call York's post office and ask for help. I hope it's not lost but just bouncing. I will post when I have news. Thanx again.

Re: Hallo everybody. Missing parcel (not anymore).
Update!!!
The thing is that today the parcel returned to the sender's address and by mistake a friend who was there refused to accept it. (
) After that, we immediately called RM to ask them to "park" it at the local post office, so the sender can go back on Saturday to pick it up.
At least (as it seems) the parcel was not lost and I hope it is at its original state (
). All I want to say is a big thank you for pushing me to contact RM through twitter and phone and to send my biggest and warmest greetings to all of the people working at/for RM for their help and immediate responses. Keep up the good work!
