Maybe there is incompetence at the top or possibly inflexibility but when posties prefer to stay indoors instead of making an all out effort to deliver mail before Christmas then the blame lies right there. We are never told why we do not get all our mail if there is an extra amount for us on that round. Is that manangement fault? Why are postmen allowed to do short rounds without their bags? Just what they can carry in their hands even when there are parcels expected? I've seen one postman doing this short round with only a handful of unaddressed circulars, to get rid of them, even in doors where the owners had requested none. He wasn't doing that because of an uncaring manager. I felt he couldn't care less about respecting the law and us the customers.DGP1 wrote:I think you'll find that most posties pull their weight, it's the management that are the ones who don't, they're the ones who screwed up, not us.
Thry directing your anger towards them and Postcom (the Government) but all we do is try to cope with the unreasonable workload and the constant demands of an uncaring and incompetant management.

Are we banging our heads against a brick wall or are you just ignoring the replies - or the third option just here to wind people up - if its the last oneendreas wrote:Maybe there is incompetence at the top or possibly inflexibility but when posties prefer to stay indoors instead of making an all out effort to deliver mail before Christmas then the blame lies right there. How many times - We cannot suspend deliveries only Managers can.but when posties prefer to stay indoors instead of making an all out effort to deliver mail before Christmas then the blame lies right there
What you want the postie to tell 600 - 800 delivery points how much mail they are getting as that is gthe only way you'll know how much you did not get - you don't understand the system or your winding us up that is as plain as day.We are never told why we do not get all our mail if there is an extra amount for us on that round
YESIs that manangement fault?
Because they may be drivers operating out of a vehicle - Duh.Why are postmen allowed to do short rounds without their bags?
By law yes LAW - we have to deliver the "unaddressed circulars" unless the resident has Opted out of the system using OFFICIAL channels.I've seen one postman doing this short round with only a handful of unaddressed circulars, to get rid of them, even in doors where the owners had requested none.
BTW if as I suspect you are on a wind up and are just here to cause trouble then your IP will be passed to your ISP as per the agreement you accepted when you joined but more importantly I wont hesitate to BAN you.
Now please debate with facts and information not assumption and bias.

Re: Royal Mail best service in the UK
You are wasting your time Teebs.
The pseudo-middle classes will never blame management, because most of them are or are married to management.
They will instead expend a great deal of energy rooting about for an excuse to blame the ordinary working man/woman.
How many middle managers go home and complain about how lazy the workforce are and if they would only go the extra mile he/she could make his targets and the whole family could have 2 weeks in the bahamas?
You don't think he/she will admit to the other half that the real reason they missed their targets is simply because they are a piss poor manager.
That simply wouldn't do TBT.
It's the lazy peasants fault every time.

Interesting article about the interweb today . You know the stuff ,social control ,mass manipulation . Seems that quite a few governments employ a lot of folks to blog and twitter in order to create the desired public opinion. According to the expert even so called democratic govts in favour of 'Free speech" are very keen about the content being desirable and "correct". China employs 260 000 in its 50cent army to blog in the requisite way

Re: Royal Mail - In Initial Sorting Office Problems
I have vented my feelings regarding delayed mail during December so I will try to add some balance;fishtank wrote:When the snow hit in late November our bin collections were suspended for 2 weeks.
There was no attempt made to deal with the "backlog"..after the snow normal service was resumed and customers were told to take the rubbish to the civic amenity site themselves....i believed that this was ridiculous so i complained.
I didn't,however go looking for "binmenchat" and vent my spleen at the ordinary bin man because i am not an idiot and am aware that this was not down to lazy-arsed bin-men who couldn't be bothered or were afraid of snow.
I knew that this was a management policy so i complained to....management.
I suppose i could have phoned the Daily Mail but their lines were jammed with people complaining about all those lazy-arsed postmen.
Non of my feelings of bad performance with Royal Mail is aimed at Posties.
5 separate days of Decembers mail was block delayed with the bags lying untouched in the Initial sorting office for more than 12+ days per day, This is the Sunday 2nd of January 2011 and I have this afternoon emailed some 230 customers advising them of Freepost Returns procedure for failed Christmas Orders ( post dating 3rd December - 18th December), I expect I will even have to pay for the Freepost Postage
All these failures were mailed in time for Christmas and the majority are from the beginning rather than the end of the time period.
The Balance sheet has shifted from a record time in December to hovering in the red at the moment, depending on the uptake of returns will depend on how far into the red it goes. In workers language, I have worked my b**ll**** off in December, instead of making a good wedge, so far I have parted with a little money to do all this work, depending on how much stuff comes back will show how much more money I lose.
I DO NOT BLAME POSTIES FOR ANY OF THE FAILED POST.
I originally thought that it was the "failed target" and fined mail that was at fault, but that doesn't operate or so I am told in December.
I recognise that we have had bad weather but the sorting office is modern on a main road which were passable throughout December with a bus service that remained with regular service throughout and a good link to the motorway.
I am now more of the opinion that it is some w**n*** of a supervisor in the Newtown/Aston Birmingham sorting in a culture of being able to decide on what mail to sort and what to ignore, has chosen to for whatever reason to let my PPI mail in December go undelivered by Christmas.
I tried to contact the sorting office in December, the problem is, the phone number seems unavailable and they are all hiding behind you Posties to take the heat for them.
.......I am hopping and waiting for the return to work and looking for blood

Re: Royal Mail best service in the UK
Chaspost, what you need to understand. Is that although the fines have been temporarily suspended, the Manager's Bonus Scheme hasn't. Which brings us back to the same problem: If we ignore a direct order to ignore the failed Mail, and Live Mail fails. We face serious disciplinaries, and if enough new Mail fails, we could potentially be CHARGED with Willful Delay, and end up in Court. Royal Mail isn't like most Employers. Some aspects of the job (including Willful Delay) are covered by British Law, not just the Conduct Code for the business.
Do you really think that any Posties get anything out of failed Mail being left behind?
Far from it! Many of us joined when the Royal Mail was a SERVICE, and still have that mindset. Yes we complain about injustices, and yes, as in any large organisation, there are a few p**s takers. But they're outnumbered, by those of us who want to provide the best service we can. But that's virtually impossible, when there isn't enough staff, or equipment to do so.
And this, completely stupid setup, of only allowing Mail to be recorded as failed, once. Just compounds the problem. Because on paper, it looks like we don't need more resources. Despite the fact that we've all seen the evidence that we DO need them.
You see: if nothing goes wrong, we can cope. If the Mail starts to back up. Well, frankly, we don't have the resources to catch it up again, in a timely manner. I'm still getting 3-4 week old Mail, with my current Mail, delivered to me. Although that's just from certain areas. I'm sure you've noticed the same type of thing. It's just lucky that none of it has been bills, as I pay most things direct from by Bank Account. Although if the statements had been bills, I'd have had problems with my creditors.
