Just to add to this Royal Mail have improved their tracking system with GPS coordinate information for Tracked 24/48 and Special Delivery parcels.

Sending and receiving customers of Tracked 24/48 and Special Delivery parcels can now be further assured that we’re fulfilling our delivery promises, thanks to the addition of GPS delivery coordinates to our Track & Trace system.

The GPS delivery coordinates are depicted visually on a map, showing exactly where an item has been delivered – whether to the receiving customer’s address, a local collect enquiry office, local collect Post Office® Branch, Preferred Neighbour or Safeplace®.

I am planning on making a trip to my local DO tomorrow morning between 7am-8am to try and chase up whereabouts of my parcel because im worried if I leave it too long they wont be able to track GPS location of where it was supposedly delivered and signed, and I still havent heard back from customer services investigation of the matter. Anybody think this is a pointless trip for me to make? Or is it probs the most logical thing to do right now?

Well its a good thing I went to my DO. It turns out that at time of delivery the post office wasnt open yet and the shop owner refused my parcel and told the postie that he thought it was for pharmacy round the corner. So the pharmacy round the corner accepted it but I just went to collect and they gave it to the caretaker/owner who opens and closes the the pharmacy everyday but dont have a number for him. So i gave them my number and Ive also to go back up at 5pm when he will be there closing up.

Also the manager of the East Kilbride DO is an absolute legend he done his best to get it for me and I only know who has it now because he drove there trying to acquire it.

Glad that you have got somewhere and that people can remember what happened. Not ideal at the moment as you are still without it, but hopefully it will appear soon.

I had to go out to the shops again earlier so I decided to swing by again and annoy them lol(not intentionally). Spoke to someone else this time who is convinced its been sent back as wrong mail by the caretaker :( . He also told me some Saturdays its not the usuall caretaker that closes up so I might be better to try and find him again on Monday. Im starting to give up hope lol.

If he did send it back wouldnt he need to take it to a post office to do so? Also does anyone know if even after an item has been scanned and marked delivered, is it possible for that item to be scanned again to show its been put back in the system?

Sending it back can (usually is) done by scribbling the address out and writing "return to send" or similar on the packet - then popping it in a post box. Normally if the address is still readable the item will find its way to the delivery office (ie postie) that delivered it in the first place. It is then returned through the system, or the postie will pick up on it, so the one that did this may get it back. But that is usually within 2-3 days of being put in a post. But if the address was obliterated then it may well be returned from elsewhere in the system.

Items can be scanned and scanned again and again with a different status input each time. If your item had gone through my office and was returning through my office, it would be scanned as being returned and that would come up on the tracking.

Yep Thats what I thought. Thanks mate for clearing that up for me. Well when I do find this mystery caretaker and he does tell me he just posted it bak in a postbox I'll know theres a good chance hes talking BS. But im not jumping to any conclusions or accusing him yet because for all I know hes still got it incase anyone did come looking for it or it could even be taking a little longer than usuall to be scanned in the system.

He could well have popped it back into a post box, but what happens to it will depend on what you wrote on it and how he marked it. If it was going back to a UK address it should be scanned on delivery at the return address, but as it is overseas I don't know what would happen.

Items being returned overseas have to have the pink "unable to deliver"/"kill-off" sticker on them so would go back to the OP's local DO to get pink stickered.

Did the item originate in the UK or abroad? If it was posted in the UK, do you know what service they used? When was it delivered to the pharmacy?

The tracking number is in the first post, RR340575831PL so I am assuming Poland. It was delivered on 22 May. It was a foreign signed for item, at our DO we collect them from the locker/cage.

I didn't know how it would be dealt with if the delivery address was totally unreadable, so it may not go back via the DO.

yeah thts correct it came from poland and was delivered last friday morning.
