Parcel stuck in Coventry for over a month

Post by Snaggletooth »

Putting "gift" isn't good enough for a customs declaration, it needed to be more specific: basically she needed to write "dietary supplements" but be more specific than that, e.g. writing "A-Z multivitamins and minerals". That's the first problem, your parcel is probably in some stop & examine queue rather than the normal queue.

Second problem is that dietary supplements from outside the EU often contravene our laws about food safety, so when customs have opened the package, they are going to have to check for that.

Third problem is that "dietary supplements" from China may be suspected to have ingredients such as powdered rhino horn, which are banned under international law. I'm sure that isn't what you have been sent, but if the description is vague then customs are probably obliged to check for this.

Yes, I have reminded her to write more specific so that the parcel will not stuck there like this. Based on the situation I having now, what can I do to get my parcel? Should I contact the Customs or should I wait to the end of my patience? It drives me mad to check everyday and no updates anyway.

Also, pay attention to a detail that the late update is "Awaiting Customs clearance" not "proceeding" or something like that. Will it just been forgotten in a corner and nobody pay attention on it?

Customs don't take calls from customers so you just have to wait. It won't be forgotten but it's probably been given to some kind of second line to decide what to do with it. It's probably being treated as low priority due to the incomplete customs form.

Now I just want to know what's the longest wait? Like a month, 2 months or even a year?

I too am having a similar problem.

The item showed in tracking as clearing Customs and then when I re tracked it seemed to have hit a cu de sac. several online form filling and emails said been detained by UK Border Force.. I was given this tel nos but it just rings of the hook constantly. So I tried to knudge the system by filling in another online form electing to pay the additional fee and have it deleivered for the PF depot to local PO. This then got PF ringing me to say couldn't find item and to reconfirm the tracking nos. As it came from China via EMS it gets a UK PF nos and strangely the PF nos. I was using had incurred and extradigit. The guy then checked this and said was in Coventry Customs and that they would contact me. Has been nearly and month and still no news. The worry is that if an advisement has been sent and got lost the items is detroyed if no response with 30 days...

I am pretty sure that it would either be destroyed because it contravenes customs regulations or sent back because it has waited too long for collection. Destruction in the latter case only happens if it has hung around unclaimed for months.

2020 FEB and another irate customer of Parcelforce or as it is better known ParcelFARCE they are as much
use as a chocolate watch to a fireman, inept doesn't even begin to describe Parcelfarce owned by Royal Mail
who will not take anything to do with them?
My Package arrived in Coventry NCH national clearance hub 14 JAN 2020 after numerous calls and emails I
was informed "customs have there is nothing we can do" "it is lost" "we cannot trace the parcel" today 18 FEB 20
after 35 days of nothing and after phoning customs myself I discovered customs have it but the woman on the
phone would only inform me that there is duties to be paid>>>>AFTER 35 DAYS AND NO CONTACT ??? but does not
know how much or when I will be notified by customs (who work 4 ON 4 OFF) it is no wonder there are backlogs
but the point is I phoned customs myself whereas Parcelfarce could have and should have contacted customs themselves
to inquire what is happening about customers parcels as they have been paid in advance to deliver to customer they leave in a loop. :no no

This is not an official site so your rant was wasted I am afraid.

However, I would say your expectations are a little extreme. Parcel force is not allowed to contact Customs about customers parcels as to do so would break so many laws such as Data Protection, GDPR and probably others.

I have searched customs number high and low and cannot find the right number. Please can you tell me what number you used to call customs in Coventry. Thanks
