We were trained by our office coach to input the name on the package/letter into our PDA regardless of who signs for it.

thats wrong, its the name of the person signing for the item that should go into the pda

I was also told to input the name on the letter/parcel, the whole system of obtaining signatures is open to abuse if the recipient was that way inclined
