Forward a delivered T24 package to another (correct) address

Post by Beyond_Puzzled »

Hi,

I was away at a rented holiday cottage over the recent Bank Holiday weekend period. While there I made an online order to be delivered via T24, however it was delayed and wasn't delivered until the day after I left. I had the tracking number so was aware of this but also the owner of the property contacted me to let me know there was a package delivered there and would I like her to forward it on to my home address.
I agreed to this, provided my home address and she Re-addressed it and popped it in the post box - as far as we are aware it went out in Friday 8th May collection at latest.
I have not recieved it as yet at my home address and thought that to be potentially strange so have done some googling which all appears to say you can no longer forward mail to another address and at best it will be returned to sender - to the best of my knowledge, there is no return address on the packet...
Does anyone know what is likely to happen to this packet? Will I recieve it? Will RM try to return it to a non existent return address? Or will it now be lost essentially?

Any and all help is much appreciated

What does the tracking say now? If you're happy to post it on here (just the tracking number) that could help someone tell you what might be happening to it.

The first issue is that the original barcode on the re-addressed parcel (which contains the address details) may be getting read by the automated parcel machines instead of the handwritten re-addressal address. So it might get stuck in a bit of a doom loop where the local posties where you stayed receive it again, see the handwritten address, throw it back in the system only for it to be read by a machine again send it back to where you stayed etc......

There are several message threads about this sort of thing happening. It may circle around that loop for a while until an actual human being recognises what is happening and does something with the address label (cross the barcode out or similar).

As to whether the revenue people will eventually intercept it and charge for it being re-addressed - not sure. I still see plenty of letters come through from old addresses where the new occupant has written the forwarding address on and they come through no problem. Might be a different kettle of fish with a parcel though.

If someone in RM decides it's not going to be sent to you and there's no return address on it, it goes to the National Returns Centre in Belfast. AFAIK they try to see if they can identify a return address from the packaging/delivery note etc. If not the item gets destroyed AFAIK but there are articles on the internet that say stuff gets auctioned off.

Is it possible to re-route the parcel to your home address by processing an "inflight request" ?

It being a holiday address I doubt it being in the same DO area.

It only becomes an issue if the item has been opened at the original destination address.
