We are wrecking the finest postal system in the world
Published Date: 03 January 2009
From: D Wood, Thorntree Lane, Goole.
WITH reference to the takeover of the Post Office by the Dutch firm TNT (Yorkshire Post, December 18), those of us who can remember the Royal Mail before Blair and Brown complied with the instructions of their masters in Brussels will recall a service which was second to none. It was efficient and also profitable and among the best in the world.
The solution to all its problems are there for all to see – remove the cherry picking foreign companies (DHL etc) from the equation, re-instate the Royal Mail's monopoly, give them back all the assets they have been stripped of, cut the fat cat bosses' pay by at least 50 per cent, tell the EU to go to hell and the Post Office will soon be back to its best.
Having worked for a large British shipping company whose particular division was merged with the biggest Dutch shipping company, I have experienced Dutch inefficiency at its best. The last thing the Royal Mail needs is a Dutch firm running it. We may as well save the money and close the Royal Mail down now, before the Dutch ruin it completely – after all, are they not part of the EU who are hell bent on the destruction of our postal service for their own gain and our detriment?
I had to send a document to Rotterdam and was told by our Dutch personnel department to send it to DHL – it cost £50.48. The same service was provided by the Royal Mail for £7.50,
the only difference being the Royal Mail did not pick it up from the door.
From: Brian Hardy, All Hallowes Drive, Tickhill, Doncaster.
THE Hooper report into Royal Mail glibly states that Royal Mail has been less efficient than its competitors elsewhere.
But this ignores the Mail's statutory responsibility to deliver a comprehensive service at the same price to addresses throughout the United Kingdom. It does not have the luxury of cherry picking which mail to deliver, unlike the private sector. Market directives from the European Union have handed the most lucrative areas to privateers, leaving the rest to the public carrier. The proposal to involve the Dutch firm TNT as a partner to Royal Mail will sound the death knell for a universal service as we know it. Neither the Government nor the opposition has any mandate for this treacherous act.
Start organising now to oppose this deplorable scheme

Re: We are wrecking the finest postal system in the world
the irony
the idea of 'opening up' our postal market
now we are making a larger private RM/TNT mongrel that will dominate the market i assume
soon we shall have TNT stating that dowstream access is unworkable and it needs govenrment cash to offset the costs
then the USO etc etc

Wasn't this one of the reasons we where on strike last year
Maybe if we'd been listened to this may not have happened.

Was it, I thought it was because they wanted us to work all our hours? Then again, we are all work shy, overpaid, lazy sods, so it could have just been the money.custard wrote:disgruntledpostie1 wrote:Wasn't this one of the reasons we where on strike last yearMaybe if we'd been listened to this may not have happened.

Re: We are wrecking the finest postal system in the world
Way I see it we have 3 choices
1 Tell everyone whats happening to thier mail service, either through word of mouth or as an extra sneaky door to door ( oops where did that come from )
2 Mobilise the troops and once 100% behind it all of us refuse to deliver downstream mail ( like to see them try to sack every Postie in the country )
3 Set up our own Postal Company. steal all the business from TNT DHL etc etc, yes we poor buggars would still have to deliver it but if we the Postal Workers were the shareholders then at least we should benefit from any profits our own mail company made. I'm seroiusly looking into getting a Postal Operators Licence.

If you read the article on hellmail.co.uk " Postal services act needs urgent revision" you will see that THERE HAS BEEN A MASSIVE COVER UP !
so called competitors--the writing has been on the wall for a long time now,and anyone who is still thinking they can turn back the clock is mistaken..And, where have the Union been all this time, instead of protecting our original contracts
from day one, they have allowed and encouraged us to accept change after change.
We are in a way already part of T.N.T

Re: We are wrecking the finest postal system in the world
I've said for a long time what are we doing delivering d2d items for companys such as 'tnt door drop media' no answer were forthcoming from the managers reasonably high up and now we know why. So lateones mates are now with all intent and purpose are set to grab a portion of royal fail with the help of his friends at the top no wonder he showed no further intrest in another year or so contract with r.m (not that he'd be welcomed by the staff) how long has this devious creep been lining them up for an asault at r.m ?

Over 50 years ago, TNT Post’s doordrop media division, formerly Circular Distributors, launched the UK's first ever doordrop campaign, delivering free samples of soap powder to millions of UK households.
We went on to become the leading name in the doordrop field, responsible for much of the pioneering 'research and development' of the doordrop medium. We deliver over 2 billion unaddressed items for national advertisers across the retail, packaged goods and direct response sectors. Our doordrop offering is unique within the industry as we operate as both Broker for Royal Mail & Newshare (with local free newspaper) products and, as a media owner, we operate our own distribution network with over 8,000 Distributors reaching up to 20 million UK households. The benefit to our clients includes greater coverage, more choice and enhanced results.

Re: We are wrecking the finest postal system in the world
Basically TNT take some of the workload off the customers hands, the question is do RM offer this type of service ?
http://www.tntpost.co.uk/Doordrop_Media ... _Mail.html
If you want access to every post code sector in the UK and the bonus of a positive environment of receipt, TNT Post can plan and book your doordrop to be delivered alongside the post by the Royal Mail. This allows you to reach up to 26 million homes nationwide, including normally hard to reach urban and rural areas.
Your campaign will be precisely managed by TNT Post's own Royal Mail doordrop department and the service can be totally integrated with other TNT Post distribution methods to provide seamless national activity with no duplication of coverage.
Restricted to three non-competing items, this service gives your doordrop extra stand-out and at a fraction of the cost of direct mail.
Widely used by the financial, charity, mail order and publishing sectors the service is fully managed by TNT Post's own dedicated Royal Mail Product team who also validate distributions by telephone.
* Only doordrop method to cover all 26 million UK households
* Delivered with the post for maximum impact
* TNT Post is an official Royal Mail Agent organising and managing every campaign detail

Axeman,
Will this do? All TNT are doing is offering a enhanced service for which they get paid from the customer sending out the leaflets. If not already then RML need to offer a rival enahnced service so as to boots income.
