VITAL UPDATE FROM DGSP TERRY PULLINGER ON ROYAL MAIL TALKS

Post by Lapzio »

God knows how this 35 hour week will work more hours going out the office, royal mail want people on the lowest contracts so when there off sick, annual leave they pay them less .
Probably 80 % of the duties are totally unrealistic to the contracted hours this is where the union has to step in , im sick of walking into the office and within 1 minute knowing i will be going an hour plus over my time .
Nothing gets done about growth of work it just falls on the nearest round even if that round is over, total lazy management . Ive realised the only person in royal mail that can manage you effectively is yourself you just have to stick up for yourself "Just say no"

Pouch off

They are against spending less time in the place they loath. :arrrghhh
I feel sorry for the Union at times when they have to put up with moronic members who will always find something wrong with any deal.
Probably because it won't work. Are you happy to be forced to do 8 hours worth of work in 7 hours (once the 35hr thing eventually comes in)? :cuppa
Your statement makes no sense.
You can't do 8 hours of work in 7 hours especially if you are on a driving job due to speed limits etc.
It's up to the Union and Royal Mail to bring in revisions to make it work.

I've read a few of the comments and the one that stands out for me is this one.

Working your hours indoors is no problem because there is no argument when a supervisor or manager actually witnesses you working your hours. I don't know much about processing mail but I guess you can only work as fast as the machine so Im guessing everybody's throughputs/work efficiency should be pretty much the same?? Now thats most definitely not the case for outdoor deliveries. Some staff come in early, forego breaks and rush round (because they want to finish earlier, rather than later) but then this spoils things for everyone else because it gives managers scope to lapse deliveries, add loops, alter indoor work plans etc. etc. In other words it puts more pressure on delivery staff. And I can't see Royal Mail relinquishing lapsing and absorption from this agreement - they never did in the last one. They will jot out the usual mantra about resourcing to workload, but really its all about maximising profit.

Now I totally agree with you that it is up to the Union and Royal Mail to bring in revisions to make it work - but we all know that Royal Mail is a business, and everything they do is all about cost cutting and making a profit. We all want a SWW in RM but we just don't want all the bullying and harassment that goes on in trying to tell managers that we simply don't want to work overtime. And watch this space because the later we finish - and the fact that most posties still bizarrely consider their job to be a morning one (even though its now actually an early evening one) - will mean more posties either rushing round like blue ar*sed flies trying to finish OR arguing with managers that they don't want to work at 4pm. Will the culture ever change?? :hmmmm
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

No because too many office revisions have been built around all the idiotic corner cutters and managers never sorting out the uneven duties. If they did it would show how badly the DO's have been run since P&L came in and most DO's would need a lot of hours put back in to them. That's like the company admitting its managers/directors are not up to the job and all the bonuses paid to planners and managers for "efficiency savings" were just payments to force the workforce to do unrealistic workloads. In other words bullying and harassment.

That'll never happen.

Most of the P&L revisions were built around the idiotic planners and the even more idiotic (agreed) planning tools, no "corner cutter" could screw up a duty like Pegasus could. That's why after 18 months of hugely expensive "planning" involving three of Royal Mail's finest planners our office took one look at the outputs, laughed a little and carried the whole lot out to the recycling bin.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Not all all. There's really good operators and others who would probably struggle with the complexities of their TV remote.
Then there's those who don't want to go on manual, or packets or whatever it is they do when the workload is finished, and slow down to ensure that that doesn't happen.

I had a look at the Pegasus delivery tools and apparently on my walk all the delivery points / letter boxes are on the front of all the houses and not 3 quarters down the sides of the houses !

And RM will still be using the same "tools" which don't have letterboxes etc in the correct locations so saying walks are smaller than they are in reality.

Corner cutters killed our office simply by going on to the bigger duties then telling their friendly manager they were doable and the regular holders had that thrown in their faces.

I've got a delivery point on my round that is shown on Pegasus as being part of a block of houses adjacent to the road when in fact it is situated 100 yards down a narrow lane between 2 of the houses, followed by 3 flights of steps up to the front door....and 3 flights of steps and 100 yards back to the roadside. I have pointed this out to my DOM who didn't seem particularly interested for some reason.
