Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
A cover person that refuses to change walks, thus resulting in a duty duty holder not attending on OT, is NOT at fault or blameworthy for any extra lapsing......which in any case doesn't have to be done if you don't have time within your duty hours. It's actually the fault of RM for deliberately understaffing offices and imposing lapsing as a replacement measure.

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
The duty holder working their day off will have to do another duty, you have a duty as covering day's off. Therefor you know exactly which duty on each day of the week to cover. The manager or Rep must be aware of this but if they wish to work day off it's got to be on another duty effectively helping out the office rather than you being punted onto something else. This was happening in our office to help the favourites but Rep put a stop to it as it's not allowed. If they want overtime then they must do another duty and you stick to your duty patterns. It has nothin at all to do with someone signing and it's their duty only because if this was the case then your duty requires tou to cover XYZ on specefic days. Take it up with Rep or Area Rep cos your being shafted. Hope that answers your query...from a former Union Reppostiewhite wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 11:10I am a cover person, but its becoming a stress when 3 times a week I have no consistency due to the duty holder working their day off.
I get they need to have operational needs but surely in fairness (which is a word that rarely goes hand in hand with the company) it shouldn't happen at least 2-3 times a week having me kicked off and put somewhere else, effectively being a reserve?
Iam senior to half the staff there and I purposely declined a duty in the repick 3 months ago so I could drop a day and do a 4 day cover. I only regularly do 1 of my duties each week which is my cover.
Is there anything I can do about this? Its a tricky one because if the duty holder wants to work their day off they will only go on their own round effectively kicking me off it.
Ive worked in other offices where the cover person stays on cover and if the duty holder wants to work their day off then they will be given a choice of any other duty available.
Do I have absolutely no rights in this? Its my duty for the day and its becoming annoying and causes stress. There are people been in the company less than 6 months and are on duties which are not even signed to them.

Probably working their day off on SA - then you don't get the problem of rest day covers.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
Not true, if someone picks a cover 'duty' it's still a duty they've signed for hence they cover the regular persons day off. If the regular person wants to work their day they dont have the automatic rite to boot the cover man off their duty2yearpostie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 11:26nope sorry if the duty holder has picked a job it belongs to them, you effectively picked the job of being spare.

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
Nearly 5 years so no not new, just saying what happens in my office as otherwise (being a realitively small office) over 25% walks wouldnt go out if the duyty holder didnt work overtime and the only way they agree to it (in the whole office) is that your on your normal duty.postiewhite wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 15:562yr postie has got it all wrong and doesn't understand how things are supposed to work. Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
Is the correct answer. The people who have been getting deals will be grumpy for a couple of weeks and throw their toys out their pram but after 2 or 3 weeks will be crawling back to work their days off (on another job) if they want the docket. Seen it happen. Lazy management.Captain Scarlet wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 13:24The duty holder working their day off will have to do another duty, you have a duty as covering day's off. Putting the needs of group of people against another, a harmonius office enviroment this will not be.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 16:40Is the correct answer. Generally im a bit odd. I care about whats right for the WHOLE office and not one person/duty holder/cover/reserve/etc.
If a duty holder is coming in on o/t its because somewhere in that office work need to be covered, not because someone wants extra moner, Rm really dont care if we want extra money.
In that situtation theres these ways to cover the work that needs doing.
A. Lapse-Annoys the most people
B. Leave a job in -Annoys the holder of that duty the next day with dbl mail.
C. Offer it on overtime to anyone (inc a duty holder of another duty) -Generally not taken.
D. Move things around so someone who knows it does it (reserve/float/cover duty holder) and ask duty holder in to cover own duty. Generally only upsets one person.

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
People have a start and finish time. You are not forced to take any lapsing if it means you are going over so how would people get upset if they do not have to do it if it takes them over. You just need to say NO to the manager. If NO isn't good enough then the rep needs to be involved but NO should be enough. If you think you can do the lapsing as well as your duty (in time) then maybe your duty is too short and as you care so much for the office (as you say) then shouldn't you be telling your manager to make your duty a bit longer to help save them money and shortages?!!2yearpostie wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 16:51Putting the needs of group of people against another, a harmonius office enviroment this will not be.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022, 16:40Is the correct answer. Having various duties to cover every single day is the problem of RM, not the staff and not the cover person's fault. Maybe you need to step up and help solve this problem in your office.

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
B & D 'upset' the same amount of people.
B is preferred choice as the duty holder really shouldn't take the f***ing piss.
"Oh yes I'll come in on o/t, what? not on my own round? well no thank you I won't if I don't get my own way"
Do another walk and learn it you feckless arse. No? You'll just be moved off your walk if you learn others you say?.
Like covers you mean?
The cover that has to leave his scheduled duty for your intransigence over overtime you can easily do without seemingly?
Go on, off you f**k poppet, let someone who NEEDS the o/t have it.
C: the grabbing docket kings would have it split up and bagged before before the echo of "Third of a walk on o/t!" stopped reverberating around the depot.
A Lapsing should not take place in such an instance.

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
I disagree and agree with 2yearpostie. In certain types of offices it is way easier to cover duties if the duty holder works their day off on their duty. These tend to be rural offices where it's a case of who knows what.
However, based on objective fairness anyone working their day off should do any duty that needs covering. The duty holder does not have the automatic right to 'their' duty whatever. The day off cover has the right on that day.
Plus, they are RM routes so anyone can do them. The fact that we have signed for duties makes it easier for resourcing of staff and that's the top and bottom of it. But again, if you have a lot of rurals, it's who knows what.
