Everyone is getting their knickers in a twist and saying no!

so what will happen is while everyone is focused on this other more damaging things will slip through the net and when it all plays out and we only get say 5 hour deliveries then much celebration yes we won! No we didn't 6 hour deliveries were never going to be a reality but by saying they are we are much more likely to accept an hour under and be happy about it even though it is longer than we currently have ( for some)

everyone needs to calm down and concentrate on the little things, those are the ones that are really going to matter

It's classic negotiating techniques and happens every single time and we fall for it every single time - promise something so horrific that all the focus is on it then give in on that while slipping everything you wanted in when they don't notice
agreed, instead of negotiating this rubbish & being happy scraps the union should be going after the company on the CURRENT workload issues!
All this talk of 6 hour deliveries is a side track off the current problems!

Well....the only mention of 6 hr deliveries I've heard has come from the union so who's pulling the stunt?

Good point. Who do you believe? The source that gives dribs and drabs, snippets of possible misinformation and scare-stories, or the source that says nothing until it's too late and the ink is already dried on the agreement. It's a pretty poopy situation for us proles. Bring on the revolution - some of us will join in anyway.

Did you miss this little nugget from Dingo?
What about annualised hours where you have to have an agreed set of hours

I think that will end the cutting off debate.
annualised hours will never work as we make no time in the so called summer slowdown, we go over all the time then aswell so if they shave anhour off our times all summer people would just be either a)booking alot of time or b)leaving alot of mail.
Exactly, RM would be nationally depending upon OPGs that want overtime to cover at least most of March, if not part of February too. I'd happily relive my childhood school summer holidays in late winter / early spring! :left: :left: :left:

It is a ridiculous proposal when our current daily workloads are completely unrealistic, the model week workload that our daily indoor and outdoor work is based on is fantasy compared to the ~48 weeks of the year.

How so? They give you 6.5 hrs work to deliver in 6 hrs, you claim 30 mins overtime, or cut off. Where does that 30 mins go
with annualised hours?

Annualised hours could be great. Do a heck of a lot of OT in the comfy spring and summer months then come mid November say, 'I've done me hours for the year now boss. See you in January...'

One of the major problems with annualised hours (especially with shifts starting and finishing later than now), is there will be a number of OPGs that cannot do more than an 8-hour day, regardless of the real workload. Not just OPGs with "family friendly" circumstances, for instance OPGs with health issues.

There is no way there can be a "blanket rule" where we must all stay until delivery completion, tallying up work hours against our annual ~1872 total (based on FT 39-hour week with just 4 weeks of annual leave taken, no account of POAL; long service extra leave days; bank holidays). Especially when "planning values" can easily be underestimating workloads by ~20% or more.

Continuing to deliver past 1600 @ ~20C during summer is a damn sight nicer prospect than 1600 @ <5C in winter, but even in summer this could have serious consequences during heatwaves through extreme dehydration. OPGs dying is a very real possibility.

Even if "flexing up" by an extra 30 minutes beyond daily contracted hours (typically up to ~8 hours) became compulsary (with this extra being tallied against annual hours), it is not going to get deliveries completed with these often nonsense planning values being used to "calculate" indoor and outdoor workloads, when OPGs try and do the job per spec instead of breaking security and/or h&s protocols to meet the "computer says this is possible" propoganda.

And what happens when someone meets their annual hours before the annual year is up? Trying to book off lieu days now, despite the PSP system in place for the last few years, is mission impossible for all but "special ones" in the eyes of their lino/DOM.

Can't do it yet Bruv there's no trade dispute yet but that kind of action will be much more effective than an all out strike should it come to it. Have there been any briefings on the company proposals by the union in your area? anyone else had a CWU briefing seeking your views?

It's just called "Working Properly" and in their Defence the CWU have been advocating it. No need for "A Work to Rule" (which I believe is illegal) just Start on Time...Finish on Time & take your Meal Break! :thumbup

How much of an effect would one wave have on start times for delivery offices attached to mail centres?
