You tell your D.O that you are not prepared to work over your time, so he tells you to stream the mail and deliver first class etc.
What doesnt make sense is that it takes time to stream and as a result you dont have time to deliver the streamed mail!!

Streaming the mail is just one solution to the problem if you tell them you cant extend.
The other solutions are:
1. Discuss with you and come to an agreement at what is the furthest point you will reach on your delivery and get someone else to cover it.
2. Advise you to attempt the delivery and contact them at no expense to you (you are able to claim back phone call costs) at an agreed time to see if you are able to complete or not.
3. Advise you to work to your time and bring any undelivered items to them.
There are also various different streaming methods.
1. Extract all Mail sort single deliveries - (This means check each DP with a single letter only, and if there is only MS for the address then extract and deliver next day). This is a fairly quick method of streaming
2. Extract all Mail sort even if going to DP - this helps cuts down on the weight issue but does take longer.
3. One that I have never heard done is too also stream packets/recorded items and pass these to drivers or someone doing OT. I think if this was an option the call rate would be quicker and more mail would be delivered. Of course the drawback is finding someone willing to take them or a driver willing to do them as invariably they would be just as busy.
Of course is Mail Sort streaming does not work you can stream 2nd class as well. But ultimately its for the manager to find a solution if you are unable or unwilling to extend.
