Journalist covering working conditions in the heatwaves

Hello all!

I am a freelance journalist working on a story about the working conditions of various sectors in the heatwave weather.

I thought that it would be important to represent the experiences of postal workers in the piece, as you are of course very much on the frontline in the heat.

I heard some stories of some postal workers getting heatstroke, hospitalised or worse during or after their rounds, and am looking to fact check and document these incidents where appropriate. I had the steer from a local CWU rep that this site might be a good place to look.

My friend is a farmer he works 14 hours a day in all weathers and looks after himself what you will get here is the woe is me crowd that don’t have the wit to slow down and take fluids on board and taking other precautions trying to blame Royal Mail…..we are all told to carry out dynamic risk assessments, including weather and not take any chances

Local agreement meant we were allowed to start earlier and finish earlier. We only went out with tracked items, specials and if we could manage it 1c letters.

Our manager was fantastic and so was our local rep. RM has some major flaws in how it treats us, but from my experience I have no complaints with how everyone at our office was treated.
