I was told the same thing but dismissed it as I thought there must be an easier way to get a foothold in the UK energy industrySean06 wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026, 23:38My god read some nonsense on here..jessicarabbit wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026, 23:25I was told by a senior union official that the real reason he bought us was to legitimise his business in the UK. Re: Heavy And Light
Hasn't DK just taken a £320m dividend from his UK energy business, doesn't that suggest he's already established?

They were praying for Larry Wildman to save Bluestar Airlines only to discover in real life it doesn't work out like the movies, if you get the allusion.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026, 23:25The CWU wanted desperately to believe that DK was the answer to everything so believed everything he said.

So his holdings in Sainsbury's and West Ham United weren't enough?jessicarabbit wrote: ↑01 Feb 2026, 23:25I was told by a senior union official that the real reason he bought us was to legitimise his business in the UK. The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

His wealth primarily comes from his stake in Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH), a conglomerate with assets valued at approximately 28.9 billion euros ($31.3 billion).
£200 million from a gig style Royal Mail still seems like small beer (and peanuts) and just doesn't seem worth the negative publicity.
Most billionaires don't have their net worth as spending money as most of it is tied up in stakes and long term holdings. All DK is interested in is what return these assets generate relative to the capital and risks involved, and £200 million more profit doesn't simply mean £200 million more cash - it can make the whole company worth £1-2 billion more if its eventually sold. If this is in addition to the profits already generated at GLS then that could turn IDS into a £500 million earnings before EBIT. And that's not beer money when its value also compounds over time!!
Think of a house that has an annual rent £10k which you them modernise and improve so that you can then rent it out at £15k - you don't just add another £5k per year, you also increase the house's sale price because buyers pay based on the rental income. Businesses work in much the same way.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
