Re: Non Drivers
The true non drivers in our office have 25 years plus in, there are others who can drive, but choose not to. There will be plenty of Mon to Fri to pick from.

I'm Dec 2009 but my seniority only starts from 2013 as I was on rolling contracts with Angard for so long.claretandblue wrote: ↑19 Jan 2025, 20:24If you're pre 2010 you should have enough seniority to pick a Mon to Fri.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑19 Jan 2025, 20:18There will need to be a real solution to this issue....and not one that comes from either RM or CWU. If non drivers are guaranteed Mon-Fri duties then I along with 90% of the legacy pre 2010 members will just politely decline to bring their drivers license in for its annual 6 months check I will have to be accommodated along with all the others who either can't/won't drive for RM. They can't sack us/pay us all off so a solution will be found.

They could do a bit of ips and parcel sorting every other Saturday then out with a barrow full of mail the rest of the time.

A barrow full of first class mail would total one barrow for the full office and would cover the entire postcodekazardaimenu wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 16:35They could do a bit of ips and parcel sorting every other Saturday then out with a barrow full of mail the rest of the time.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: Non Drivers
There are definitely things they could be doing, just takes a manager with imagination or a manager to have the thought said to them in a way that makes them think it was their idea.kazardaimenu wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 16:35They could do a bit of ips and parcel sorting every other Saturday then out with a barrow full of mail the rest of the time.

How many walks worth of D2D could they get prepped in that time?Acca Dacca wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 17:00A barrow full of first class mail would total one barrow for the full office and would cover the entire postcodekazardaimenu wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 16:35They could do a bit of ips and parcel sorting every other Saturday then out with a barrow full of mail the rest of the time.

Re: Non Drivers
Depends how many D2D's thee are, even just having 2 leaflets takes ages if you do it right by not nesting, so time consuming, how many times have we been told they will all come in one envelope? The USPS do this for e.g, would save so much time.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 19:38How many walks worth of D2D could they get prepped in that time?Acca Dacca wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 17:00A barrow full of first class mail would total one barrow for the full office and would cover the entire postcodekazardaimenu wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 16:35They could do a bit of ips and parcel sorting every other Saturday then out with a barrow full of mail the rest of the time.

Re: Non Drivers
It would be even better if RM were to work with the companies to have them all addressed and machine sortable, then we could sequence them. If that were to happen, would that save much time in DOs?

People won't be scheduled to come in on a Saturday to sort door to doors or walk a huge area with a small bundle of 1C letters

Re: Non Drivers
would guess if this did happen (which i doubt) then they would have to pay a relocation fee, which kinda defeats the objectSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 08:41They might be made supernumerary and moved to another office. Back when we had a realignment, before they got found other duties within the MC the supernumerary were going to be moved out to various DOs. they wouldn't have had any say or choice in the matter. It would have been they moved or they had no job.Barnacle wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 08:08There are a minority of non-drivers in each office and they need to be protected from being forced out of a job, just because a lazy manager can’t think of duty hours for them or can’t see them doing anything in the new version of RM. They may or may not have every Saturday off, but they are hardly in a comfortable position.
i know of a few at ours who got moved here from another office donkeys years ago got a decent craic p/w for 2 or 3 years and actually lived even closer!

Re: Non Drivers
Anyone working in the trial offices have an update on this problem? Ie actual information rather than opinions. Not being confrontational here, im genuinely curious if anyone actually knows. Ive asked around and neither management or union have a clue about it. Literally no idea at all. Not even guesses. In fact our union rep laughed out loud when I asked him and followed it with "no idea, I think they're having meetings about it" which isn't ideal considering its being rolled out as we speak. So theyre either so inept that they haven't thought about it at all or they're lying about it all. Both options are equally possible.

Not even all the trial offices have started yet.

Re: Non Drivers
Thanks for the reply. I was told they start this week with trials lasting through Feb and march with a view to rolling it out to other offices from April-June. It's only hearsay but it came from a fairy reliable source who knows the manager in our area earmarked for rolling it out (on a social basis). A couple of managers in our office have indicated it's likely to be "sooner rather than later" Its coming. They've invested too much money and time on it. I wouldn't want to say more than that in case the manager that told me gets identified. He's one of the few decent managers we have.
