Re: Revision vote tomorrow
This was the start of this particular debate though:

I'm sorry if this has been raised before, but could someone tell me who has the right to vote, the whole office or just the union members? thanks

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Revision vote tomorrow
I would imagine we were one of the first offices to go live with the total revision package and so there wasn't any "guidelines" or "best practice" from other offices and so although there was involvement there was always in mind the spirit of the agreement in BT2010. There are of course many more revisions to take lessons from now and we were being pushed from both sides to "go live" before Christmas 2010. Well I have to say that in 20 odd years that is the worst I have ever seen a Christmas. Nothing worked and there has been and still is amendments and we are about to have instituted a second non-agreed revision or at least the new duties being displayed but without union involvement this time. A unit still has to operate with and without union members and in office with a 40/50% non membership it is a serious problem - as ft points out when does representation become ineffective. Branch are supposed to be responsible for membership but take no active role whatsoever. The CWU is in serious danger of being sidelined outside of large cities with MCs with a majority of members and that means RM will and actually IS taking the initiative in deliveries.fishtank wrote:I agree with all of your points but i don't think in this case that's what happened.clashcityrocker wrote:I don't think anyone should have to work every Saturday if they don't want to. Ballot or no ballot.
I don't think union members should have a duty structure imposed on them by non union members.
Unless: that unit has taken a decision to include non-union members in that vote. And personally I would be sympathetic to that.
I have a problem with management giving non members a vote to try and engineer the duty pattern that they (management) want.
The majority of non-members in dv's office are part-time so management including them in a vote would be counter productive.
I think what happened in dv's office was a lack of imagination in the duty make up and an intransigence on the part of management.

Re: Revision vote tomorrow
I know exactly what you mean. Though a couple of the managers at my place are starting to counsel people now for starting before their time. One member threatened to put in a complaint against me because every day for a week I asked him not to start before his time. Tried explaining to him but it went in one ear and out the otherkeithposty wrote:round getting bigger so i will just have to come in earlier (unpaid)![]()

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
