People have been jumping on and off driving for decades depending on which way the wind blows. Removal of driving allowances accelerated that.
I just don't see someone with 20/30/40 years service getting sent to work elsewhere, unless it becomes unconditional that everyone needs to drive.

well there is plenty of non-drivers in our office who don't drive because they cant (including me) so we will be excluded from the equation.

Do you really think that the DOM's boss will care? All they'll see is someone finishing early and will likely say to the DOM, give that person more work or we take hours out of the officeWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑01 Jun 2022, 12:19It's a mailcentre thing.
As has been pointed out to SP many times you can't just add an hour's work to a duty based on an individual's performance or finishing time because the duty and the individual are two separate things.
You might send the guy out with more work if he keeps coming back early if there's work available but again that's the individual not the duty and as most managers are aware if that becomes a regular occurance the guy is just going to slow down unless he's really stupid.

What's a DOM?
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.

First of all there are no DOMs, secondly OPS Managers or whatever they're calling themselves now are not in the slightest bit interested in what time individual members are finishing, thirdly you can't take hours out of an office based on what time an individual is finishing, resourcing doesn't work like that, fourthly you've been told all this before and just ignore it, fifthly why do I f***ing bother.
The tools drive the resourcing (indoor and outdoor), not the ones paid to stare at the tools.
How long have we had PDA actuals now?
I'm still waiting on those "higher ups" of yours getting on the phone demanding Frank's duty be made bigger cause he's finishing early. They must be busy in another office.

When is this going to happen because I'm getting older by the day here?
In all the discussions I've had with OPS managers they've never brought up cutting hours on the basis of finishing times once. Indoor hours constantly, overtime constantly, budget and WIPWH almost religiously but finishing times no.
For the very very last time you can't add to a duty because Mick can finish it half an hour earlier than Joe because if Joe goes on it the duty will be half an hour too long.
That is surely pretty easy to comprehend isn't it?

What managers in delivery offices are really interested in is your first letter time not your last letter time but I can't be arsed explaining why SP.

It will be down to the COMs whether to give the OPs who's finishing early more work to do or not to take them up to their time. In the past this has always lead to angry exchanges and issues
From what I've seen they just can't be bothered with all the trouble
And why should they? If the office is clear and they've taken their quadruple lapse, why the feck are they doing anymore work anyway?

Job and knock went years ago. It's a new management structure, so anything the OPS managers have said before now doesn't count for anything. The COMs cover multiple offices so if one of their offices needs hours, they're going to be looking at what hours they can take from their other officesWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑01 Jun 2022, 21:45When SP?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑01 Jun 2022, 21:14Higher up don't care, all they'll be interested in is cutting hours wherever they can

Get your head out of the sand! There's potentially a big fine coming up for RM so they're bound to be looking at the hours each office is using.
RM can add what they like to any duty

Children it is too early for squabbling.
Job and knock was supposed to be done away with, however the reality on the ground varies from office to office.
In theory people shouldn't be allowed to leave early while there is undelivered mail in the office.
Some COMs do indeed cover 2 locations where one of those offices is a very small unit.
I know of one - whether it will actually work is questionable.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: RMCtv : Nick 'Never in a month of' Landon : We probably need 25% of the team to cover a Sunday
Once everyone is out on delivery then surely one COM could cover a dozen offices. The paperwork must be fairly standardised across all DOs and much of it will be on computer anyway. If RM ever were to bring in Team Leaders then they'd save a massive amount of money. The Team leaders could be on a normal posties pay + the leadership allowance and then one COM could cover a dozen officesclashcityrocker wrote: ↑02 Jun 2022, 07:27Some COMs do indeed cover 2 locations where one of those offices is a very small unit.

That's the problem though. In theory people shouldn't be allowed to leave early while there is undelivered mail in the office.
You can't plan to have undelivered mail in the office in the hope someone comes back early to deliver it.
So job and finish never really went away.
The reality was "Working your paid hours" in P&M2007 was never even intended to remove job and finish, it was supposed to stop ghost overtime.
It failed on that count as well.
