Re: USO going
I can't see the workload going down, if anything I think it'll go up with people working from home and more people shopping online. I think covid has accelerated what was already happening, people moving to online shopping

2.4 While Ofcom does not have the power to change the minimum requirements in the Act, we do have a role in reviewing the extent to which these requirements reflect the reasonable needs of postal users. This document contains our review. As is required under Section 34 of the Act, we have provided a copy of this review to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). It is for the UK Government to determine
whether any changes are needed to the minimum requirements and to bring any proposals before Parliament.

Re: USO going
If royal mail want to do away with Saturday letters without the union chucking a spanner in the works they'll need to make it attractive for people. Giving leave reserves every Saturday off wont do that.2yearpostie wrote: ↑26 Nov 2020, 19:35Duty's put into groups of 5,Reserves off every saturday?

Their whole parcel plan if it comes off as they want means most offices wont even need to open on Saturdays because the stuff they're interested in will go straight from the new hubs to the current lat offices for delivery allowing them to supposedly lose 1 in 6 deliveries in the other offices that wont sort or deliver them anymore. So if that happens in an office of 60 duties, 10 would go and then Monday to Friday would mean cover duties wouldn't be needed! Massive savings to be had if they can pull it off and get staff to buy into it

Re: USO going
I've been wondering if the parcel strategy which was announced in 2019 would still be viable now given the upsurge in traffic. You have to think that the calculations that were made bear no resemblance to the reality of the world we live in now and very probably live in post Covid as regards parcels. Will 3 hubs suffice? Can LAT offices actually cope with the massive increase in volume? There is no doubt that in order to flourish and prosper RM needs to be a major player in the parcels game I just hope that the vision of 2019 hasn't become obsolete in 2020.

Why a Tuesday ? Tuesday is busier than Monday these days !! Monday are dead.Cucumber wrote: ↑26 Nov 2020, 16:22Think back to when we had the 'trial' of packet only Saturdays.
6 weeks of some getting every Saturday off, and the rest were lucky to get 1 off in that time.
Going forward, it's pretty obvious who will be working Mon-Fri and who will be landed with the Saturday/Sunday shifts with a Tuesday off, so I'd hope the union have pushed for a weekend supplement.

Mondays won't exactly be quiet anymore when you have Saturdays mail on top of what comes in on Monday.

Re: USO going
I'd love to reduce my hours and just work sat & sun delivering only packets.
And I really don't think anyone has to worry about losing their job, as others have said with natural wastage and perhaps (if we're lucky) a few VR's I think there'll be no compulsory redundancies at all.

Re: USO going
It wouldn't suprise me if thats the way royal mail go, dedicated weekend workers allowing them to offer the carrot of Monday to Friday for letter delivery postie's. Wouldn't matter what the cwu say I bet the majority would vote in favour of it given the chancewacko74 wrote: ↑27 Nov 2020, 03:28I'd love to reduce my hours and just work sat & sun delivering only packets.
