Re: Van checks
Laugh a minute this thread, if you are a part timer 20 hours like me you will find time for checks cuts no ice with management, all they want is you to complete your round in impossible times in whatever way you can, to hell with the rules unless they are under threat from a problem caused by this approach. If you follow the rules in my experience you can expect reduced hours and later starts as punishment. As of course most p/t workers do far more than the allotted 20 minimum and often rely on more.

Do the checks! It's your neck on the line if something goes wrong, the screws will have you by the balls and 'I didn't have time' will not wash with them.Blue29 wrote:spot onredneck wrote:Laugh a minute this thread, if you are a part timer 20 hours like me you will find time for checks cuts no ice with management, all they want is you to complete your round in impossible times in whatever way you can, to hell with the rules unless they are under threat from a problem caused by this approach. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Van checks
If doing the checks means that ultimately I will be left on 20 hours per week nothing more then I may as well be fired. I never see anyone doing the checks at our depot. Therefore I would be highlighted as someone who costs them more money and is filling their day in - result less money for doing the job properly. This also applies to bag weights, use of trolleys and all other company procedures which are widely ignored.POSTMAN wrote:Do the checks! I'm sorry but maybe you should look for another job if you can't survive on your contracted hours, the rules are there to protect you, they're not there so you can ignore them because it'll cost you OT..........anyway, that's what the grievance procedure is for.redneck wrote:If doing the checks means that ultimately I will be left on 20 hours per week nothing more then I may as well be fired. Re: Van checks
The difference between fellow workers in RM has never been greater; one set (the full timers) get the decent guaranteed hours and have every right to follow procedures and be paid for it. The other set (the part timers) get all kinds of weird hours thrown at them and are at risk of a major loss of money if they follow procedures, due to not being chosen for overtime available as perceived to be a slower worker by following those same procedures. And I'm afraid I would also currently class putting something into grievance as a further reason for management to reduce the available hours of the part timer. I am in the union but the rep has said there is very little he can do, apart from trying to even out the pain of wage loss for part timers in a local cost cutting exercise evenly across all p/t staff.DGP1 wrote:I'm sorry but maybe you should look for another job if you can't survive on your contracted hours, the rules are there to protect you, they're not there so you can ignore them because it'll cost you OT..........anyway, that's what the grievance procedure is for.redneck wrote:If doing the checks means that ultimately I will be left on 20 hours per week nothing more then I may as well be fired.
