What I would like implemented is a system where noone can leave to go on delivery until everyone is ready to leave the office. That way the runners would have to help those with bigger walks at least to get ready and it would be in everyones best interests to help eachother! Missorts would also be dealt with correctly! :hmmmm

Ok so it's a dream, people are just too damn selfish to do this but it would be nice! The guy I am partnered with on P & L now goes out in his own van because he's ready to go so much earlier than me. It's a little depressing seeing him leave 2 hours before me every day when I know I will be out there til cutoff time. Wouldn't be so bad if he didn't get in late every morning but then I guess he doesn't have to rush on his little walk! :left:
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Totally agree with you twobags. WTF is going on in your office Judgee? needs flagging up to area I think. P & L is 2 in a van and if you arn't ready to go tough s**t on your partner, he'll just have to learn to wait or stop coming in early and working through his break.

It's not only tolerated by management...it's actively encouraged, sometimes using the carrot of finishing early and sometimes with the bullying stick of "performance issues".
If you were a manager under budget pressure from your DSM would you want the office "doing the job properly"?
Certain "flyers" will tell you that as long as they are gaining where is the harm?....and then of course they expect the rep to stand up and argue against increased absorption.
Meanwhile those who are working properly are accused of laziness by management and sadly some of those who call themselves colleagues.
It is both a weakness in management who are far too spineless to stand up to their superiors and fight to have a business unit properly resourced and a weakness in members who, despite all of the changes for the worse that have come and are still to come, continually deny to themselves and others the damage they are doing to our job security.

They are a certain kind of people flyers..they don't tend to turn up for union meetings, they always have an excuse when someone needs help,if you're having a collection for someone they're always a bit short but will catch you later, they will drive past you when it's pissing down and claim they didn't see you.....
Selfish is being too kind to them... :cuppa

Oh there are more people going out in thier own vans than that. The DOM is a real promotion junky, he's doing what it takes to make it look like the revision is working in our office! When this guy had to wait for me we cut off both walks as he basically threw his walk up then went and sat in the car park for hours. Then out on the walks I was the designated driver so according to my partner my duty was my duty plus all his oversized packets and his duty was just his duty. To be honest he is a complete prick so I think I prefer going out on my own even if it isn't proper P & L!

The union bloke just lets the DOM get on with it, although there are now strong rumours flying around of getting rid of the union guy with a vote of no confidence!

I'm sure many offices are being "finely tuned" by wheeler dealer DOMs to make it look like thier revisions are working too?! :arrrghhh

Sypathise with you Judgee, we all work with Dickheads! :arrrghhh I'm sure you're correct about offices being "Fine Tuned" by their DOMs, read an interesting post by Clashcity recently...It concerned Mangers doing Posties work i.e IPS, Throwing Off and Bagging Up. I expect there's a lot of that going on as it, as you say, makes it look as if the Revisions are working.

With Sequenced mail it's fairly easy, and dare I say "relaxing", for Mangers (and their Favourites) to throw of a lot of the Duties in the Office (in the Warm & Dry having a Cuppa and a chat). They can then restrict the amount of OT given to Posties, who should be doing that work! If you want any OT it's extra Bags to Deliver out in the Elements! Then of course they produce the old, "How come that took you so long" argument/bullying. :arrrghhh

Stormproof wrote:People may disagree with me but I still think people should be finishing back at their office. Perhaps people would then do the job properly! We should, like all other big firms have a clocking in/out system then we will see how much of RM has been run on goodwill, 10mins here/there will soon add up :cuppa

I totally agree with you. Just think about it...each person giving RM even just 12mins a day minimum free... 5 days a week=1 Hr per week.Multiply that by 120 employees.. Royal Mail are getting 120 hrs work done at no cost to themselves. This equates to 3 full time staff and numerous PT staff that should be employed. Just take note, this is MINIMUM. We have people in our office that give RM nearly an hour a day in one way or another :arrrghhh I give up!

It amazes me why lads give 1hr per day ,thats about £50 a week at least ,if a manager was to come up to these boys and said i want £50 of you every week they would tell him to jump .But the FACT of the matter is thats what these boys are doing handing there manager £50 a week into his pocket  theres wiser people in st lukes

last year 5.2 million people worked an average of 7 hrs unpaid overtime per week a record 28.9 billion to the economy.this statistic was taken from t.u.c. sight, it seems its common practice makes you wonder where its all goin :mad

There are issues about people coming in early and working for free but I believe for some it is a performance issue. They are afraid that under normal circumstances they cannot cope with the amount of work they are required to do and feel unable to say so, more especially the older element but not restricted to that age group.
